add147 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 mikechell, Wow what a deal for you to be invited to something like that especially when you are out of town. Your flies look good...I hope one day I might be able to tie something that small. The smallest I have tied on so far has been a 12. Hope you are staying warm up in the windy city. We are suppose to have another round of freezing rain and sleet tomorrow night into Thursday morning. Ice does not do well in East Texas...Folks can't drive in it and the ones that think they can usually end up in the ditch. I stay at home off the roads. retrocarp 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 As some of you know ... I spend an inordinate amount of time sitting in a hotel room. Until this last trip, I never took my tying equipment with me. This time, I did. Doesn't mean I am getting better ... but tying IS better than walking around a mall or some other activity. I am also at that age when walking around a mall not buying anything, marks me as a "dirty old man". Anyway ... today's flies ... I was inspired by some pictures of a zonker streamer fly, with ribbing holding the strip to the top of the hook. I figured I could do something like that with what I have on hand. So, the Fluffy Streamer is born. Using the same feathers from a $1.00 boa: inch minnow 1.JPG ... and a size 8 straight hook, green thread and the fluff. 3-1-15 01.JPG Wet: 3-1-15 02.JPG Some nymph on #6 scud and octopus hooks: 3-1-15 03.JPG And I played with a dryer sheet from the laundry room. I used a black Sharpie. Oh, fingernail polish will cause Sharpie ink to run like crazy. I used some Super Glue Fix-all and made some wings. I also tried furling some thread with tail fibers in it to make extended abdomens. So, with the same size 8 straight shank hooks, I tied up a couple of test ... may-dragon-salmon-robber fly flies. 3-1-15 04.JPG 3-1-15 05.JPG 3-1-15 06.JPG 3-1-15 07.JPG Cool robber flies ....drier sheets eh....look out wifey !!!! wschmitt3 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Tied up a whole mess of flies in the last few weeks. Here is a small sample of them. I am terrible at photographing flies. Ive got to work on that, but here they are. There is some black beadhead flashback hare's ears, guides choice hares ears, hares ears, Red and Copper Brown Copper Johns, Pheasant tails, Bead head Pheasant tail, a Flashback Pheasant Tail on a scud hook with an z-lon shuck, and a very flashy green caddis pupa. I tied 4-6 of several sizes of each of these and a few other patterns since saturday probably 125 or so flies in all. Its restocking time!
