Obi 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Hi everybody, I want to tye a very simple nymph: Chis Dor's Brown Glister Nymph. The recipe says: VENIARD Glister Sparcle Dubbing - which I don't get where I typically buy my tying stuff (various Shops). Nevertheless, I feel use of the correct dubbing is crucial for such a simple nymph. What I typically get is brands like HARE, HEND's and SLF. Can anybody recommend a good substitute for the VENIARD-stuff, in terms of color, glitter-effect and texture? Thanks, Michael
whatfly 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Mike Hogue mentioned this stuff in an essay a time ago and he compared it to Lite Brite, which implies it is a little coarser than Ice Dub or SLF, but I imagine either of those would work as well (c.f. http://www.eflytyer.com/patterns/jardine.html). FIN-ITE 34 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Check out the Sybai dubbings at www.performanceflies.com There are two or three flash type blends that look very close to the Veniards Glister.
matuka222 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2015 I researched this question a few years back when I wanted to tie some Glister Nymphs for a trip to New Zealand. Master Brite was the consitent advice I received - it is either the same stuff or very close to it. The fish certainly liked it. Mr. Google indicates it is readily avaiable from a range of suppliers. Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2015 Wing n Flash comes in a lot of new colours now, maybe that will help? You can dub it too!
