RogueFlies 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2015 I've only bought then one time and it was a box from orvis that I've barely even made a dent in; definitely worth the $9. I'm curious as to who you prefer to buy from. I like the orvis ones, but I'm still keen to try some other brands to see if I like any other brands more or less. RogueFlies 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2015 Awesome, thank you Fin, Pica, Rolf and Bob. Definitely going to have to give them both a try, they both look a lot better than the orvis ones I am currently using. They're more full and have a better consistency from what I can tell in the pictures of then

epzamora 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2015 I've toyed with it some but haven't fished those flies yet. From one of several web pages i've bookmarked, apparently CDC comes in four forms: http://globalflyfisher.com/tiebetter/tying-with-cdc/ eric fresno, ca. SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2015 I've toyed with it some but haven't fished those flies yet. From one of several web pages i've bookmarked, apparently CDC comes in four forms: http://globalflyfisher.com/tiebetter/tying-with-cdc/ eric fresno, ca. You will note in the article that Hans refers to both Marc Petitjean and Rene Harrop, the owner of Trouthunters. "Note: Marc Petitjean, a CDC aficionado and one of the key people in modern development of CDC flies, conducted much of the research into the early use of CDC. His research and that of other angling historians and tiers as well as over 100 CDC patterns from several continents has been published in Tying Flies with CDC: The Fisherman's Miracle Feather by Leon Links (Melwin Unwin, 2002)." "René Harrop's landmark article in the July 1991 issue of Fly Fisherman put him at the forefront of North American CDC proponents and helped popularize CDC in the States. A second prominent North American tier who has been developing techniques and patterns using CDC is Colorado tier Shane Stalcup. Between them, they have come up with a number of imaginative and effective patterns." I think it is the early involvment with obtaining CDC that allowed these two companies to source the very best CDC.
tctrout 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2015 Great recommendations for CDC, though easily my current favorite supplier is my dad's best friend, who is an avid duck hunter! TC

flytyer62 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 like others have said if you plan on tying CDC flies - Trouthunter is by far better than most, Petitjean CDC is real good also but a bit pricey.
