Airhead 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 I missed a step! Trim foam strips, 3 on top to hook bend. 1 on bottom trim right off. 2 on bottom/sides to hook point. Can a moderator add that to the end of the tying instructions?

Guest Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Awesome fly, I bet that baby floats like a cork! I got your step added for you also
Airhead 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Thanks Will. Grease up the Hair and body and it darn near "hovers". Don't grease it and it still floats well. Makes a good indicator for a dropper too!
Guest Report post Posted February 17, 2005 I'll vouch for this pattern. I think it was a sulpher hatch

Airhead 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 It's not my pattern Darin, it's Gary LaFontaines. I picked my screen name after the fly, not visa-versa.
pennscreekrules 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2005 That's great fly. LaFontaines rules!
appalachian angler (tn.) 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 Cool pattern! I have some of that thin foam from my wife's new laptop packaging and it has been lying above my bench waiting for use. Your pattern submission is giving me some food for thought. A.A.
Irish 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 A good job. Reminds me of when I learned how to tie the fly in a class that Gary taught. The man had some really great ideas. Boy do i miss him. Also works innsize 6 for smallies. Irish
Redfox 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 It is a great pattern. I remember a few years ago a bunch of us were getting together once a week to tie flies. My friend shows up and wants to teach us this pattern. We all gave him a hard time kidding him pretty bad when I finished mine I gave it to him. About a year later we were fishing on Nesowhunk Lake and he was catching fish one right after the other. Yeah you guessed it. The Halo Emerger by Gary LaFontaine. After about 20 fish I asked if he had an extra one. That's what the fish were hitting I tied one on and look out. I now have plently in my vest and have used then may times.
