Best Beginner Fly Tying Book

Recommended Posts

I am partial to Skip Morris books. Super simple but thorough at the same time.

However, there are droves of videos that you can learn from these days. YouTube can hook you up!

I started long ago when I was in Junior HS with Helen Shaw's fly tying.  The local library actually sold the book and it's now mine!

My three favorites are...

Fly Tying For Beginners: How to Tie 50 Failsafe Flies

The Bug Book: A Fly Fisher's Guide to Trout Stream Insects

The History of Fly-Fishing in Fifty Flies

These last two aren't about tying per se but I've found them incredibly useful to learn more about flies and tying history.

Probably been mentioned somewhere in the previous 14 pages, but for a new tyer  Leeson & Schollmeyer's 'The Fly Tier's Benchside' Reference is hard to beat.
