December Flies from the Vise

Recommended Posts

It's been too long since I've been at the vice, but got a little bit of time tonight. Just some simple Wooly Buggers using Cohen's Carp Dub in a dubbing loop for the body.

very similar to a "secret" fly I've been using for a long time with great success on many species... I tend to use a relatively fine wire standard shank TDE hook, like a standard dry fly Mustad 94840 or equiv, a marabou tail equal to the shank length, a matching ice dub body, and a bead.

It's so dead simple that I don't even talk about it. Like most things. biggrin.png Sometimes I don't match the body and marabou... I've had some amazing crappie fishing on a white tail with pink body.

Creme, this is some Razor Edge Magic... fast two-step tutorial to inspire more folks to build these. Bet they cast nicely, too

These are on size 6 streamer hooks, easily castable on a 3wt.

I've never really tied traditional streamers like these, definitely out of the comfort zone. Here's a light spruce and a freestyle of sorts, playing with materials and colors. They'll get better.

No reason flies like these can't play on this side of the pond. Here's the vid

hook - Mustad 3399A #12

thread - MFC 8/0 sand

rib - x-small wire silver

body - dubbing grey

body hackle - golden badger

wing - hen pheasant wing (2 layers; he uses 3)

hackle - golden badger

Regards,

Scott
