Paulson's Fluttering Salmonfly (Carnage variation) SBS

A few changes to Eric Paulson's very interesting pattern; original body was tied Rogue style. Mr. Twister on a hook; 0x tippet recommended.

 

 

hook Dai Riki 135 #6

thread - UTC 140 hot orange

core - 20lb mono

tail/underbody - moose body hair

abdomen - 1 mm foam cinnamon

wings - mallard flank

over wing - elk hair

legs - medium rubber brown

head - elk hair dyed dark brown

 

 

mash barb, start thread at head

clean, stack, measure (butts extending gap width past bend) a healthy clump of elk hair; trim butts, tie in with 2 soft loops, pull tight and let it spin at the eye

Looks great. Might I mention that when you push the elk hair at the head back if you have a cylinder of a correct size (bic pen case maybe) you can slide that over the hair and then tie it off rather than holding the hair in your fingers. (step 22s and 23)

Thanks for the suggestion but my finger works fine for me and I wouldn't have to search around the bench for another tool (which I'd probably misplace) since it's attached to my hand. If I misplace that, I have bigger problems to deal with.
