Mark Knapp 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2020 And you can hear the northern lights when it's that cold. Mark what do the Northern Lights sound like? This is very interesting - Thanks! As the curtains of light move, the sound goes " sh sh sh sh SH SH SH SH SH SH SH SH SH SH sh sh sh sh" It's kind of like wind blowing but it's a "shhhh" sound. It's very light and you can only hear it on very cold days when nothing else is moving. I've only heard it on the trap line where I was hundreds of miles from civilization, where there are no ambient noises from human activity.
Mark Knapp 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2020 It was thirty below here this Sunday, It was 80 above in the fish house though, at eye level, at my feet it was just warm enough to melt the ice on the floor of the house.

vicente 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2020 That's cool Mark, there were a few years where we could see them from my backyard in the mountains of northern California, it was pretty awesome nothing like up there but not at all expected.
samsonboi 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2020 -15 this morning and last, not as bad as some days. had to do the barn chores so I wore an extra shell over my coat. Then I spilled freezing water all over my thin riding pants... ⛄️ Sometimes it gets so cold here that your spit evaporates in midair.
