I really DO hate people.

The Michigan left is always a fun thing to explain to people from out of state lol. Not sure about the turning left on red on a one way street or not, mainly because we don't have very many one ways streets that I know of. There's a few in downtown Detroit and downtown Pontiac, but outside of that I have never seen any one way streets in my area at least.

Speak of road hazards ... this isn't the worst stunt I've avoided ... but it was caught on the dash cam.

That would not have caused me any concern or consternation what so ever. If you keep using your hatred on things like that there will be no hate left in the tank when you really need it.

I'm not sure if you're seeing it correctly, Poopdeck. Seconds before, there was a car in the left lane beside me. If it had still been there, I wouldn't have been able to avoid hitting that idiot.

People like this keep proving to me that I've got plenty of hatred left in that tank.

Michigan you have a left hand turn light / lane at a majority of intersections. You may turn RIGHT on red, but it is never legal to turn LEFT on red here in Michigan unless it is at a divided hwy and traffic is clear. Normal intersections it is never legal to do so. The light for left hand turn is green (turn when traffic is clear only) then yellow then red. The problem is people think they are special and can pull out into the intersection when they know traffic will not be clear so by the time they actually get to turn the light has already been red for a few seconds and it's been green for cross traffic, yet you have to wait for the morons that are running the red to turn left when they shouldn't be.

It's a by product of this "instant gratification" society has become. people no longer have any patience and believe they should just go when they feel like it rather than when it is proper/legal to go.

Ive been ticked for that twice in Texas...The violation is called a Forced Red

I dont get my ass out there on a yellow any more.

😉

I must not be. From what I saw you had over 4 seconds of reaction time where you could have turned left, turned right, stop, or do nothing. You did nothing until the final second. I'm also assuming you were angry at the guy in the red truck and not the car in the center lane that you went around. I saw no close call or anything alarming other then the traffic patterns. Possibly the video does the situation no justice.

Whats up with the free for all left turns from the center of the road? I saw three cars abreast all making a left turn? There's the problem right there.

The white van in the right lane was turning, turn signal and all.

The truck u-turned into the right lane, timing his turn to pull in behind the van. Not a problem.

The car didn't wait for clearance ... turning before the right lane was clear, and correcting into in the center lane. He is the jerk in this situation.

Yes, all three were trying to turn into the same drive.

There was a vehicle in the left lane travelling in the same direction, in my blind spot, but I knew he was there. As soon as those vehicles started turning across my path, I had looked to be sure I knew where he was. I did not expect the car to shorten his turn an stay in the center lane.

Yes, I had time to stop or (as I did) go around ... but I shouldn't have needed to do either. I wasn't the one "in the wrong".

If my thoughts carry any weight, the car driver is suffering serious diarrhea and his brain will soon pass through his butt.

Seems like no harm no foul to me. Because you didn't want to stop, turn or slow down because you shouldn't have to only added to the problem, as little as it was. i'm still dumbfounded that three cars abreast can make a left turn together. Since this seems to be legal in your parts I would assume the first car (the one that ended up in the middle lane) has the right of way over the red truck. The way I see it the red truck was wrong in doing his power move into the right lane cutting off the first car.

wacko.png You're totally seeing it wrong.

The white van was IN the right hand lane already ... slowing to make the right hand turn into the shopping center. He's okay.

The truck did his best to u-turn completely to the right hand lane, entering it BEHIND the white van ... to also enter the shopping center. HE'S okay.

The car tried to follow the truck, without considering the approaching traffic. When he couldn't get all the way across, he stopped in the center lane so he could ALSO try to enter the same entrance to the shopping center. HE is the idiot who thinks everyone should stop for him.

I didn't "add to the problem". I WAS slowing down, and I COULDN'T move to my left until I was sure the car travelling beside me was no longer there. I would not have collided with that car, as I could've stopped. But it would have been an abrupt stop that I shouldn't have to make. It's a 50 mph zone.

I'll leave it at that. You can see what ever you want. You can make what ever judgement you want. I guess you just had to be there. My feelings are the same.

I'm seeing that the way you are, Mike--mostly. White van is okay. Red truck was pushing it but at least got his ass out of everyone's way in time. The Honda was asking to be rear-ended or worse. I see this kind of thing all the time here in Michigan, and I agree with Steve as to what causes a lot of it. You've got a large percentage of the driving population who are distracted by their phones or whatever they're doing instead of watching the road. Then you've got another group who just feel entitled to go when they feel like it, and who think everyone should just "make way". Add to that the people whose reaction time and ability to process information has been compromised by their age (too young or too old), and the nitwits who couldn't drive their way out of a wet paper sack on the best day of their lives...honestly, it's a miracle that we have as few accidents as we do.

I recently went through the process of teaching my twin boys how to drive, and my consistent directive to them was to assume that every other driver they encountered on the road was, at the moment of the encounter, about to do something stupid and dangerous, and to be prepared to take defensive action. Assume that every driver approaching a red light is going to run it and plow into you if you put your vehicle in his/her path. Assume that the driver of every car you meet on a two-lane highway is about to fall asleep/have a stroke/take a selfie, etc., and, in his distraction, veer across the center line into your lane. Assume that every kid you see on the sidewalk is about to dart out in front of your car. Assume that every shadowy roadside ditch holds an 8-point buck that's just about to leap out onto the road. Assume that the car looming up in your rear-view mirror as you sit stopped at a red light (or, especially, at a traffic backup on the highway) does not see you, and be ready to get out of his way. Always know where your escape/evasion route is if things go start to go sideways.

ASSUME all of this, and be ready. 9 times out of 10, nothing will happen, but it only takes once. Don't trust anyone with your safety but yourself.

If I had the money to wield political influence, I would spend every penny of it and never rest until self-driving cars were a reality and human-driven cars were outlawed and taken off the road. That can't happen soon enough to suit me. The irony is that I like driving, always have, but there's just too much crazy out there.

This concludes today's sermon/rant. Whew! :)

I had a cop pass me other day doing 95+ mph while I had the cruise control set at 80 in a 70...I thought I was going to get a ticket...he had his face in cell phone looking into the passenger side of his car.

We are doomed.

🤪
