August Flies From the Vise

New Trier (Original recipe)

 

Hook – streamer style

Thread – black

Tag – fine copper wire & yellow floss

Tail – golden pheasant crest

Butt – peacock herl

Body – first half silver coated copper wire; butted with peacock herl.

Second half copper wire.

Throat – dun hackle fibers

Wing – mottled gray brown turkey

Body – first half silver oval tinsel; butted with peacock herl.

Second half copper oval tinsel.

Throat – dun hackle fibers

Wing – mottled brown turkey

 

Tying note: I tied this fly per the photo in the book “Forgotten Flies”. Not all photos in the book match the tying recipe.

Thought so, but it looks a lot stronger and smaller than my klinkhammer hooks manufactuted by partridge... what company makes yours?

I don't like my thinner version from partridge, bends too easily, I like the one you're using

I find it quite hard to bend. Usually thread breaks or if I do bend it its because I am forcing the hook to accept a bead to make it beyond the sharp bend. Happened 1 time out of nearly 50 hooks in a pack.

Good to be reminded the pros break thread, make hackle size mistakes, and generally screw up occasionally. Well except Kimo, I'll never believe it, even with pics!! ;) :D

 

Seriously nice flies from everyone. Hope I can tie again soon.
