Fly Tying

What are you working on?

Recommended Posts

More nymphs from the Orvis book. Only about forty more nymphs to go, then I can start on the streamers.

Working on a box of flies for my girlfriend, she turns 30 Wednesday. Got a new vise and have been on a pretty good tying streak for a week or so.

Well done...nice B-day present.

Spoil her with something else too. If she's like my wife she will appreciate perfume.

She got a tfo 4wt 4pc rod, and I'm taking her to get a lifetime hunting and fishing license. She's really into bow hunting.

Some more nymphs from the Orvis book. You'd think I was some kind of nymph maniac.

I need to learn to post better photos. Last night I tied up a dozen soft hackle PT and some Cajun Coachman. I ran out of Barred feathers for the Cajun Coachman. I will tie some more with Gadwall feathers or maybe just calf tail.

I'm still working on the nymphs from the Orvis book.

Weighted Prince Nymph. I'm using grey thread on the weighted flies so I can distinguish them in my fly box.

I going to really start paying attention to dubbing control to get less lumpy bodies in my nymphs.

Such a simple idea to change head color to mark weighted flies. Why has that idea escaped me for all these years.

BTW, the older we get, the harder it is to control a lumpy body.

I use red thread for the head when I tie weighted versions of a nymph that I also tie without weight. Sometimes half red for lightly weighted. Red on a trout fly will never hurt!
