Noahguide 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2019 Some smaller flies to finish out the month. Spanish silk flies ala McPhail and single wing duns.
Philly 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2019 Here's the sum total of what I tied in January. This is the "Vermont" fly box I'm working on. Various nymphs tied on size 12 and 14 hooks. Body materials include chicken, parrot, turkey and goose, a couple of attempts at some Copper Johns and some mop flies, changed up the materials on the mop from a sparkle chenille thorax to a peacock herl one and added soft hackles to them. Still have four or five rows to fill in with some larger nymphs. I've been cleaning up my tying area and found an unfinished fly. Not sure how long it's been unfinished, at least a couple of years. Body is tubing, covered with clear sili skin with foam tied onto the hook shank. A generic minnow. I found some brushes when I was cleaning one of my material drawers. I think they're Enrico Puglisi material. Wanted to see if I could incorporate it in to a Calcasieu Pig Boat.

eide 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2019 The last of the bunch. Following Eide again, what I aspire to. Looking good: the body work is getting better and the ribs are nice and even! A few tips: flatten out the silk you are using - look at the tag, it has some bumps. If possible: use smaller tinsel for the tag, makes the fly look much better. Try a shorter wing, that will help out with the overall impression of the pattern, and will help with the topping flowing over the wing.

I'll work on these points on my next group.
