timinator 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Can anyone recommend a hook size/style for tying bead head pheasent tail nymphs? Also how do you add a "flashback". Thanks Tim
atroutbum2 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Any 1xl or 2xl nymph hook can be used for these. Some hook makers have specific Bead head hooks, but they arn't really necessary for these types of flies. The flash back is usually krystel flash/lure flash type material, sometimes it is tied in at the tail and secured to the top of the body using the rib. Sometimes it is just used as the wingback and tied over the thorax. Feel free to expierment to get the amount of flash you desire.
fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 I don't know if anyone else does this but if I add a bead to a pattern I go one size longer. For example, I use a Mustad 9672 instead of a 9671.
