March 2019 Flies From the Vise

Recommended Posts

This is my version of the "George" nymph. I have made just a few modifications but it is still very close to the original. It was originally tied by Eddy George, Smoky Mountain resident, in the 1930's and though a staple nymph of the Smoky Mountain streams still today is little known elsewhere. It's distinctive feature is the white wing casing giving the fly's original name "Cottontop."

Norm, you have inspired me. I just ordered a grade 1 partridge skin.

Totally unrelated, the other thing I just got is a whole badger skin.

Some "suspender" midges. Based on Jim Cannon's snowshoe suspender midge. 20s and 22s

Um ... except you didn't tie up any clear/light tan colors. Any time I've been around salt water, on shallow, super clear, sand bottom waters, the shrimp and bait fish are very light colored, too.

What you've got looks great ... but you need to do some white/clear/light tan (sand) colors.
