Another big bait fish pattern for pike and salt water. This one is almost all natural and is 8 inches long.

Shortly after breakup each year, salmon smolts make a run for the the ocean and trout and other predator fish wait to ambush them where lakes empty into rivers. It's a lot of fun to fly fish there. Bait fish patterns three to four inches long are the name of the game but if you want to try for the Paxson Lake grand slam (that's lake trout, rainbow trout Grayling and Whitefish) you will need a bunch of nymphs too. I have two whole turkey skins so I've been tying up a bunch of nymphs with turkey tail and turkey flats.

Turkey tail and flats, I wanted it a little buggier like a hares ear nymph so I added some cat hair from the cats bed. It reminds me of a hare ear nymph so I call it a Gold Rib Turkey Ear Nymph.

All Turkey Flat. I've been using the bronze iridescent part of the flat for the wing case. On these I added just a little bit more goo to the wing case just for fun.

After receiving a couple of minnow patterns in swaps lately, I thought I would sit down and see if I could figure out how to tie one. I sat down last night with a ton of deer hair and started experimenting. I watched a couple of Youtube videos, one on EP tying and one on Lefty's deceiver patterns. I kind of squished techniques from both patterns into these flies. I'm pretty happy with the initial results, but still need to work on finish trimming and final head shape.

The yellow one is actually a fluro chartreuse color so I guess the light is playing tricks with the color. The small flies are tied on #6 SS Mustads. The larger are #1/0 Mustad SS.
