Had a customer ask for shad flies that are all gold and all silver.  This is what I came up with. They wanted wooly buggers, so this was the closest I could get for all flash wooly bugger.

Thanks @flytire

I like the color the root beer chenille produces.  I may have to look for some online.  I've stuck with the Burnt Orange thus far as it is always readily available at the local Cabelas (any color used in crayfish patterns is readily available down here).  Regardless of exact case color, I've found the pattern to be a big hit with brook trout when fishing smaller streams in CO.

To some, they may be the dumbest lookin' fly they'll ever tie.😆

But the concept, gaudy as it is, is absolutely deadly across a wide range of species and waters.  I do similar with body material, sometimes altering the tailing on whim.

Typically spend as much time cutting to about 1", crumpling a bit, and cranking the material into dubbing brushes with 32 gauge wire as I do the actual tying of the fly.  Crappy pic above, but I make 'em year round in all sizes and weights usually with Flashabou.  Smaller ones with Angle hair or Wing'n'Flash type flash material.  On standard gold Flashabou, watch for after X-mas sales at Hobby Lobby and other stores with Flashabou ornaments and such.  You can score a goldmine for a few bucks, it's unreal what the flytying industry sells a scrawny little hank for relative the post-holiday ornament market.

Nice working flybox, BTW.  That style rides clean and hooks warmwater species quite well even at distances.

Here, here.... Dats what I like, innovation.  Traditional stuff is fine but when the talent around here “creates”, then some amazing things however large or small happen.

McFL you headed to South Florida for da winter?  Nice flies for dat!
