mvendon 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2020 @Moshup, Both of those came out just fine! The tapered body can take some time if you don't use the right combination of thread underneath. Bob Petti has a tutorial on them over at the Global Fly Fisherman site. The type that he uses takes quite a while to build, even though it's somewhat thick to start with. I used it as the secondary thread since it really flattens out and makes a nice base for the floss body on some of his patterns that I've tied. I think it's a real unique feature compared to all the streamers out there that have been created over the years. They used to have lots of his patterns over at The Streamer List before that forum became pretty dead.

Moshup 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2020 @jaimeofthenorth Speaking of Eric Leiser and his book I tied tonight the Llama which he didn’t originate but he certainly popularized it. When I was 12 he showed me how to tie it and told me that it was a killer for brook trout early in the season which it was. I would imagine it would do quite well in Maine in the early season as well. If you try it let me know how it workedmout. ”Llama” Hook. ........ Tiemco 300. Sz 8 Thread. ........ Utc 140. RexW 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2020 Kelson's Black Dog with a lot of substitutions and a lot of mistakes. A major mistake about half way through resulted in crowding the eye and I had to skip the wood duck in the wing as a result, but this is the most complex pattern that I've attempted so far and I'm still proud of it. Warts and all. Tag: Silver tinsel and yellow silk Tail: GP topping and red goose Butt: Black ostrich Rib: Yellow silk with oval silver tinsel on each side Body: Black silk and black hackle Throat: Same hackle as body Wing: Underwing of red-orange hackle, Jungle fowl, then two shades of turkey (sub'ed for bustard and pheasant), red and yellow goose, and a GP topping
