upstatetrout 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2021 The Davidson Special. This is an early pattern that was the work of Maholon Davidson. He was a shop owner early in the last century in Debruce New York on the Willowemoc in the Catskills. He also was a rod maker of solid wood rods. I have seen examples of both these crafts at the Catskill Fly fishing center. Maholon has been forgotten over time but belongs up there with the great Catskill Fly tiers. He tied this fly with a body of Lt.tan Fox fur dyed in willow bark. I mixed Lt. Tan Fox with olive to achieve the effect. Hook. Daiichi 1180 size 12. Silk. Pearsalls gossamer golden Olive #11. Wing. Wood duck. Tail. Wood duck. Body. Lt. Tan Fox mixed with olive. Hackle. Light ginger.

That they do, I could only find claret floss in genuine silk, so what I used was uni-floss wine, really close color I think.
Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2021 Might head to the local stocked creek between rain storms tomorrow. A nymph and a dry ought to cover it.
essequamvideri 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2021 Poopdeck, Your flies came out fantastic. Look extremely fishy. Your dry looks as though you used a quill for the body. Curious what you used to cover the body? Michael
Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2021 And fish they will, if the rain stops. I use a coat of Sally Hanson on the dry and clear cure goo on the nymph for no reason other than I'm trying to use up the CCG. When the UV resin is gone it will be all SH. Until the rain stops.....
