April Flies From the Vise

Nice tie!  You will love the action in the water. They do get heavy, but it sounds like you have a good strategy for casting.

Big game season is coming. I'm filling up the boxes for big pike. In this box are 7 to 8 inch Clousers, crease flies, deer hair poppers, foam head poppers, and streamers. I'll do a few more Clousers and some more streamers. I'm going for a 40 inch plus pike on a fly rod this year. Wish me luck. To date, my all time best is 38 1/2 inches.

Real purdy.

Well thank you, pretty new to the wool heads, but it came out decent. I decided to switch it up this week and added black ostrich herl to the butt, tied the hackle as a throat, but broke my thread while setting the wing, but was able to catch the thread, put in a half hitch, and put a drop of cement on the spot, then tied in the thread over the cement and let it dry. Set the wing, added red goose horns, finished with a wool head. Same hook, alec Jackson steelhead irons size 5.

Two more size 9/0, 7 inch Clousers and one more 11/0, 8 inch Clousers in the box. Just about ready for a pike safari. All we need now is some open water.

Another 11/0, 8 inch Clouser ready for the box. These are, of course, variations on a Clouser. The originals called for deer hair. Its very hard to get deer hair long enough for an eight inch Clouser so I substituted dyed mountain goat hair. I also added feathers and on this one, some marabou.
