BobHRAH 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2021 Try to find copies of Don Bastians's DVDs: Tying Classic Wet Flies and Advanced Classic Wet Flies. He ties a little fast, but if you re-watch them, all will become evident. His are the best wet fly instructions that I have ever seen. He also did: Traditional Streamers and Bucktails. Good Luck, Bob H

Google is much better than trying to use the site to search.
DFoster 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2021 There is a fantastic video on Prime (if you have it) by Davie Wotton called Wet Fly ways that gives an awful lot of information about how to effectively fish winged wet flies. For tying them start with youtube.
WWKimba 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2021 Here's a couple sites that could give you some ideas - Shetland Fly Box - Shetland Anglers Association (shetlandtrout.co.uk) Home Page - RiverKeeper Flies (johnkreft.com) Fly Anglers OnLine, Your Complete Internet Flyfishing Resource. <--- This is THE reference site that I always try first! They have old as well as new fly patterns on the site. Hope this helps out. Tight lines. Kim

I've watched all the Mcphail videos, the Hardy's Favorite is now my favorite too! 17 hours ago, WWKimba said: Here's a couple sites that could give you some ideas Great sites!! Thank you!!! 16 hours ago, flytire said: Have you tried searching for “wet flies for coastal cutthroat”? I have done a search for those and have found 6 or 8 patterns to tie for them...I think now that the winged wets will be more for native cutts and stillwater stuff...besides, I love the classic winged wet style, few materials, elegant styling, etc. Seems like most of the SRC patterns are shrimp and baitfish imitations...Can't wait for Aug/Sept.! DarrellP 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2021 Check out Jay Nicholas book "Sea-Run Cutthroat Flies and Fishing." Great photos with recipes. No step by step, though.
DFoster 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2021 For what it’s worth I have found wing wets very productive on heavily pressured Rivers. I think it comes down to almost no one uses them anymore and the fish on these rivers are very educated when it comes to all the generic nymphs that most anglers use. Winged wets have caught fish for a few hundred years and they still work today but most people don’t know how to fish them correctly. IMO they are most effective upstream but it requires a lot of attention to your leader and rod angle. At times they work when nothing else does.
