Met a fellow from Down Under many years ago. I believe the term is: Fair dinkum, mate. What exactly is a flathead in your country? Curious.

I choose the materials for this fly very carefully and with great thought as to movement, sink rate, visibility and durability based on my reading of a dozen classic books on fly tying, brook trout life cycles and bench side references. Actually, I found a small clear tube on the floor. I have no idea where it came from but I took it to the bench and tied a fly with it. It’s the only fly I’ve tied in a couple months.  I have no idea what i ended up with but it will catch WW fish.

A flathead is a flat fish that lies on the sea floor in anything from 6 inches to more than 30ft (many different species)...  unlike the flathead catfish I think you know.

They are the perfect ambush predator,  and suckers for a clouser minnow...

My first ever fly caught fish was one of these.....  on a chartreusse clouser.

The flies pictured above will be used to target indo-pacific permit, golden trevally,  blackspot tusk fish, and blue bastards on northern Australian flats.
