  1. I'm not so sure. I'm pretty sure that some places in my neck of the woods(MA) require a conventional fly rod, reel, and line. It'd be bestt o check with your state's game and fisherie department, they should have a website that will tell you specific rules for the specific body of water you plan to fish. Hope this helps.

  2. Thanks to everyone for the replys. This weds. I plan on taking a beginner's tying class at my nearest fly shop, weather permitting and parent permitting. Probably buy a book or two as well, and hopefuly show up to the tying classes on a regular basis. I can't express how much all of your posts have helped me...I think I've taken a little bit from just about every post, so I feel as if I already know more than I should =P. I've seen some of the flies tied by people here, and its just unbelievable.

As a closing, I just want to say that everyone who participated in the fly contest this year did awesome jobs. Regardless of who won, every single fly was awesome. I especially liked the creative flies. Keep up the good work fellas!

    Cheers

  3. thanks for all the help fellas. I know i'll probably get addicted, but hey, atleast im not spending my money on crack or something unproductive. Haha. I'm starting with a woolly bugger, and then if I like t I'll invest a little bit more into it. I plan on looking into some beginner classes at the bear's den, and probably joining the tyer's club near me. I also plan to go to the local book store and find some of the books mentioned. Thanks for all the tips.

    Cheers

  4. I've decided to invest in fly tying, seeing as I do frequent this fly tying site a lot. I have a few questions.

    1) Can someone provide me a list of essential tools and maybe a good website to order them from?

    2) What materials should I invest in first? I'm interest in starting off with the basics, buggers etc.

    3) Besides this site, are there any other good guides to help start me off?

    Thanks in advance,

  5. Thanks for the tip Troutbum.

    Riddebos3-

    1) Why not? It's not just for tyers if you hadn't realized that. Most people are helpful and seem to enjoy helping with problems we experience with our sport. Just trying to get my foot in the door is all, eventually I will tie, but for the time being, I'd like to be able to say I've fly fished for more than half a season(which I can't say yet.)

    2) No time in particular...How's April sound?

    3) basically: buggers,EHC, adams, terrestrials, Copper Johns... Things you would expect to find in a basic trout fly box. This points out another reason why I don't tie: I don't know what to use and what works in what situation.

    Hope that helps.

  6. I have yet to get into tying, so I'd like to give someone the oppurtunity to make some money, if they are so inclined. Here's the deal: I have 40 dollars which would love to be in your hands in exchange for some trout flies. Basically, what I'm looking for is the basics, flies everyone should have in their box at all times. Now I do realize that there are a LOT of you, so to keep it fair, I'll be accepting estimates(costs, how many flies I receive etc). The most enticing offer wins. I figure this is the fairest way to give everyone a fair shot of making some bucks.

  7. I was planning on going, but not only did I forget, I was sick with the flu for most of the weekend, as well as extrememly large amounts of snow and the pats owning the steelers, it just wasn't in my plans. the bear's den one looks cool, I should be there, because I actually know where the B/R high school is.

  8. good game fellas. Who's up for some fantasy golf rolleyes.gif

We should do baseball...It's a little more skill intensive, and requires a little more effort in line up management, but overall its an enjoyable activity. Then again, at the point everyone should be fishing!

  9. mmmm. No one outside of Boston can have as much satisfaction as me. Nothing better than walloping Kevin "Batting Practice" Brown, as always. He didn't even pitch two innings. Although the cardinals are better, I hope they win, I invision Game 7, Roger Clemens pitching a no-hitter...He gives me a bad feeling. I still have faith though.

On another note, here's a funny story about the game. Everyone else had gone to sleep, and I'm watching it by myself. The power GOES OUT. I put on some pants, and RAN three miles to the nearest sports bar, got there in like, 20 minutes tops. Pretty good for my fat lazy self if I do say so myself. By the way, I don't drive and I couldn't find a working radio, let alone see in the dark, lol.

  10. "For Boston for Boston, we sing our proud refrain for Boston for Boston 'tis wisdom's earthly fame

for here are all one and our hearts are true and the towers on the heights reach the heavens own blue.

for boston for boston 'til the echoes ring agin!

For Boston for Boston thy glory is our own

for Boston for Boston 'tis here that truth is known

and ever with a right shall our heirs be found 'til time shall be no more and thy work is crowned

for Boston for Boston thy glory is our own!"
