  1. I bought a cape of JC feathers on eBay from Estonia and they are pretty decent feathers for 40$ w/ shipping. However, they wreak of mothballs! My whole box of materials smells like 'em when I open it up. Is there anyway to get rid of the smell? The skin is dry and very clean so I'm not worried about critters, just the smell. Thanks for your help.

  2. You'll love the Peak vise. I love mine. I hope you already have it and are enjoying how heavy/stable it is. I'm sure the tools you got w/ it will be fine as we all have tied with basic tools. Expensive doesn't always mean better. BTW, my local shop sell bobbins with ceramic inserts for 5$. So you should be able to find these on eBay cheap. The only other thing I would say is make sure you have some fine point scissors. Get some and you'll automatically know why I'm saying this. Good luck, enjoy, and thank you for your service.

  3. Clear cure goo. It's pricey and there are other alternatives but if you want them to stay on then that's your answer. It's uv activated resin if you haven't heard of it. Check out their website. They have videos of how to use their product. You might be able to find other product on ebay after that. Just check it out. It's cool stuff regardless.

  4. Thanks for your replies. I had the same feelings as most of you. 5wt fft line etc. there are just so many options with the Internet and online stores plus local shops around the country that are online. And of course the big box stores. This is all good intel that I can pass along. I've been instructing some on my Cortland 5wt combo I got 15 yrs ago when I hung my dads old fenwick up. I thought about passing it along but it's hard to let those things go. Thanks again for your help.

  5. Since it appears after reading multiple threads here, for past week while on medical leave, that "we" are not elitist snobs and we genuinely want to grow this sport for generations to come. Whether it be the kid down the street or one of our own kids. So the question is what in your opinion is the best bang for your buck beginner fly fishing setup? Rod and reel. Combo set or individual pieces? Weight? I literally have half a dozen people that want to start but don't have the money tree in the back yard. I live in upstate SC. We have all varieties of fish here. Trout, bass, bluegill, striper, pike, catfish, carp, etc. Thanks for your replies in advance.
