  1. Hi tidewaterfly . You can find everything you need in the threads I started. " Pike Candy " and " Craft Foam Baitfish. ". The only change really is the type of hooks . For Saltwater I will only use two hooks 1. Mustad Saltwater # 34007 stainless steel 2. " Black Nickle # C52S BLN They're a Freshwater hook but they hold up well in the salt . The stainless is really the way to go . But a little $$$ over $ 30 + for 100 It's up to you. Tim
  2. So ...., your out with your Bud's for a day of fish'N. You find a School of fish busting a Baitball. You know the bet is either " The Most " or " The Biggest " right. So here's the deal... Tie on a Crippled Herring OR Break out you American Express ! No Brainer right! Tim
  3. Bluebird skies , Gin clear water , Fish are spooky ! Try feeding them a Ringneck Pheasant Shrimp. The body materials needed to tie this Shrimp come from a Peasant skin. The legs are brown Grizzly Saddle Hackle coated with Softex . Use Marabou and stripped hackle stems for the feelers , stabilizer cloth and Marabou for the Swimmerets under the tail and 50 # mono for the eyes . Tim
  4. Hi guys. Thanks . I grew up on Jones Beach out on L. I. I spent a lot time walking the water line . Crab Claws and Horseshoe Crabs were a major score. L. O. L. Those things freaked me out about as much as my name sake . ( Sandworm ) 's .so I thought why not try to come up with a close copy . And your right about those fish you mentioned. The only other things I know of that eats them are Sharks and Turtles. If noth'N else , they are easy to catch ! Tim
  5. I have always loved Horseshoe Crabs . So I thought I'd tie up a few . Talk about Jurrasic Park !
  6. Just one more pic to give some ideas . Tim
  7. Thanks Hatchet Jack, I kinda got a feel"n there will be a lot of fish out there with sore jawbones after the guys start feeding them these ! Tim
  8. Thanks for the look see at someone else's version of a great idea. I just posted my version of an idea that my friend Sato originated back in 05' and later published in Flytyer Magazine . They are one of the best Baitfish patterns I have ever seen . I hope the Pep's that read this topic try them out . Tim
  9. Ok.... These are the last two color patterns for now. One for Lakes that hold Rainbows and Pike . Match the Hatch with this Rainbow Fingerling . If your fishing the East Coast from Jupiter Inlet south and all the way around the West side. Chuck this Greenee imitation . It can also slip by as a Tenn. Shad . T.
  10. I know you gonna love the Stabilizer Cloth. It's industructable . Try burning Mayfly wings out of it. But that's a whole other topic . Tim
  11. D-Rib is some great stuff . Wrapping it around a fly gives a nice segmented look . Here's a little twist you might want to try !!! Weave It . Here 's my woven Isonycia Nymph and a Black Stonefly I tied. You should be able to find something on the net to show ya how to do an Overhand Weave. Give it a try . I had to post some Freshwater Critters. I was starting to grow Barnickles!
  12. Sounds good . Keep in touch . Send me some pic's . If you can't find the cloth at mike's look for a ..... Joanne's Fabric store. . Their the only one's I know of that sell that brand . There's about a Zill ' N differant types . My sister sews . So I swoop in once in a while when she's not looking and cut off a hunk . T
  13. Hi Tim and thanks buddy. I do have a Emerald Shiner and a Blue Back Herring and a few others posted under " Pike Candy ". But here they are one more time. These baitfish don@t have the Craft Foam heads. But you can tie them either way and on any size hook . I tie them as small as 2 1/2 " . You can weight the heads with lead Sub. Wire slightly. They don't act like a cork . They are just about neutral boyancy . I use a material called Stabilizer cloth to make Squids it's like a dryer sheet to the touch but you can't see through it. It's used for machine embroydery work. Look on inside of a sweat shirt with something embroydered on it. It's used as backing. It won' t fray and you can't rip it. Make the heads the same way using this marterial and they will fish like a normal fly. But the floaters have their place like I mentioned in the eailier posts . You can buy it in a fabric supply store where the ladies get their crap . L. O. L. Ask for Sulkey - Medium Whight Cut Away stabilizer cloth . The stuff is GREAT. I use it as wing matterial and all kinds of things . ( the bad news is going into one of those stores is worse then standing in the COSMEDIC'S ISLE AT THE PHARMACY looking for just the right shade of nail polish !!!!! ) the things we endure for our sport ! L. O. L. Thanks for asking. Tim
  14. Ok, you get to your favorite Fish'N Hole or your top SECRET numbers and ........ There's nothing happening , or it's just one of those days . Try down sizing . It can make the difference between nailing the fish or gett'N Skunked . T
  15. Just looked . I see what you mean. You GOTTA love Pike flies . Where else can you throw a half a Chicken around and not get arrested by the A. S. P. C. A. ???
  16. Thanks Rich. I'll check it . Tim
  17. Sometimes you can tweak a realistic into a fishable Critter. I took my Grass Shrimp and turned it into a 2 " shrimp for fish'N the flats. Lay this fly on the water near a tailing Bonefish. Yes Sir ...you guessed it. ! The only catch is, if you loose one of these you will need a couple of hours of Grief Counciling ! T.
  18. Hi Philly I know what you mean. I fish them on a 10 ' sink tip as we'll for the same reasons you just mentioned. I love the edges of a big weedy bay where it starts to fall off . In the lakes around my house weeds end around 20 ' Ticking the tops of the stuff a couple of feet off the bottom works well when the fish are holding in that area. Also the thermocline around here is just about 20 to 25 . Not an issue this time of year in N. Y. , but from the end of June on it really matters. But there is nothing like early Spring fishing shallow watching a Big " V " coming for your fly from 25 feet away. O. M. G. And having to wait for it to curl on top of fly ! It"s " Aw - ite. .
  19. Thanks again my friend. A lot of pep's ask me if I had a fishable version to the point where I had to tweak the realistic. Throw them in some clear water on a light sand bottom and the Madabou just sits there wiggling on it's own. Boneheads love em .
  20. I just about grew up on Jones Beach L. I . I used to Love walking down the beach finding Crab Claws or even whole Crabs washed up on the Beach. So I figured what Hell. Let me see what I can come with to copy one . I realize it's a little too blue but I tied it as collectable. And the olive was a little dark. Ok this for you Permit and Bonefish guys . OF Course I Made A Fishable Version ?!!! L. O. L. Check it out.
  21. Hi Johnnyqahog Cool Rainbow. I have seen his flies that look like yours. I personally prefer the longer head. I just think the head is more like a fish head. The only draw back is they don't want to sink . The foam acts like a bobber. The fly skims along just under the surface . I use this to my advantage when fishing a shallow weedy Flat. They sink fine if u use the right hook ( big ) . Not a problem when fishing Pile Or Bass.
  22. I don't have a step by step on hand . I'm using my phone right now . All of instructional stuff is on C D 's. If you look at the baitfish I posted in the Pike Candy topic you can see what's under the craft foam head The flies are tied the exactly the sane way just leave off the stick on eyes . Now find some thin packaging card board I use the cards stapled around a lot of flytying material packaging . Cut out a square just bigger then the fish head you want to make. Fold it in half and draw the same shape u see in my photos. Cut it out and open it up like making paper snow flakes. It should look like the photos bellow. That's your templet lay in a sheet of thin Craft Foam (you can buy it craft supply stores. It's about 1/6 " thick and looks like white printer paper. Color it with markers then nail polish something in pearl or iridescent green of purple. Coat the inside of the head with instant glue gel and little on the fly just where the head goes . Wrap the head around from the top down and hold till set. Pop on your eye balls and coat with clear non yellowing epoxy then hand spin it for a few min till semi-set . That's about it. Have fun and play around blending colors. The last thing you will want to do is put a few rocks in your pockets . Your gonna get Slammed . Tim
  23. About 10 years ago. I was tying at the International Flytying Symposium in N. J. . While at the show a friend of mine named Masahito Sato showed me a way of using Craft Foam to make the coolest looking Baitfish patterns . I have been tying them ever since. Fiish SMOKE this things . That being said , here's a couple of Flies I came up with using his idea. Top: Brown Trout Fingerling Mid: Yellow Perch. " Last: Red Fin Sucker Hope you like ' m
  24. Hi my friend. Thank you Sooooooo much. I love to tie and that really makes it all worth it. The fly is tied out of Slinky Flash it's made by Rumph. In : ORG. , Yel. And Char. I blend them slightly where one color meets the next . It looks better then just tying one color right above the last with a crisp line between the colors. Sometimes you want an abrupt change like that like a lateral line expample but I just like the way the fly looks with a blending of colors. The first tree Baitfish were tied from Krystal Flash and or Polar Flash they are almost the same thing . Krystal is a little more wavey. Those types of Baitfish are really shiny so the flashy stuff if the ticket. I have some other cool stuff but that's for another day. Tight Lines
  25. Hi Philly , I plopped my butt at my bench this morning and spun up a quick Fire Tiger. It's 7" long . Tied on a Paertridge Pike hook size 6/0. It's tied out of Rumph Slinky Flash. We'll , back to the bench. Need a couple of differant sizes.
