Craft stores have fine soft felt sheets, heavier rigid felt sheet, neoprene cork and other things that you can bed both faces of your AA clamp with. Only one way to mount your AA vise stem comes to mind - if you could thread a small portion of the stem to fit a female threaded collar that mounted on the photo pedestal.
