just wondering if anyone is going to the midwest fly fishing expo in Bloomington, MN. March 31-April 1 if ya do stop by booth 276 and say hi :yahoo:

Can you give me the information on this one? I'm up in Alex and have a 2 week old at home. But just maybe my spring fever will drive my wife crazy enough to let me go. Went to school in the Cities and did some work in Bloomington, so I kind of know my way around. When, where, etc.?

THE GREAT WATERS FLY FISHING EXPO

Friday (March 31 through Sunday (April 2) at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel.

The largest fly fishing show in the Upper Midwest and the first anywhere to promote the connection between the sport of fly fishing and the need for individual stewardship of our rivers, streams and lakes.

 

1. Fly fishing, fly tying, clothing, watercraft, travel, destination and conservation exhibits. Featuring 2006 fly rods, reels, lines, related tackle and accessories from the sport’s leading manufacturers

 

2. Beginner friendly. Free fly casting lessons with Federation of Fly Fishing certified instructors. Free beginners school both Saturday and Sunday.

 

4. Fly tying. 40 of the Midwest's best tiers at centerpiece Fly Tiers Row and special tying demonstrations at high-visibility tying tables.

 

3. Multi-species. Instruction and presentations focus on how to catch all species of fish on a fly (bass, trout, steelhead, pike, muskies, bluegills, carp).

 

3. Live stream invertebrate show with entomologist Dean Hansen and members of the St. Paul Fly Tyers Club.

 

4. Conservation success stories by grass-roots fishing clubs from Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. Special program March 31 on a Southeast Minnesota trout success story with Jason Moekel of MnDNR.

 

5. Special appearance and presentation on the consequences of global warming at 5 p.m. Saturday by polar explorer and educator Will Steger.

 

5. Women in Fly Fishing programs, including receptions Saturday and Sunday and instruction.

 

6. Camp Fly Fish for Kids. Knot tying, fish identification, casting, fly fishing basics - sponsored by Minnesota DNR's MnAqua program.

 

7. Trout Unlimited Driftless Area Restoration Area reception and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday. Remarks by MnDNR assistant commissioner Brad Moore. Announcement of recipient of the Thomas F. Waters Stewardship Award . Dr. Waters is professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota, author and longtime river advocate.

 

8. Vermillion River Field Trip. Saturday morning April 1. Special on-stream presentation by DNR trout specialist Brian Nerbonne and demonstrations by Trout Unlimited fly anglers

 

 

Friday, March 31: 2:30 – 7 p.m.

 

Saturday: April 1: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Sunday: April 2: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PERSONALITIES

 

Larry Dahlberg. Host of the “Hunt for Big Fish” on Outdoor Life Network and one of the most skilled and versatile of contemporary anglers. Grew up in Grantsburg, Wis.

 

Brian O’Keefe. Popular international angler known for his fly casting skills and award-winning photography. He and his wife are hosts of the Scientific Anglers/ 3M DVD “Introduction to Fly Casting.”

 

Diana Rudolph. A rising star in the fly fishing world. In 2004, she became the first woman angler to win the prestigious Don Hawley Invitational Tarpon Tournament in the Florida Keys. In the past two years she has also broken the 16-pound IGFA women's tarpon record, the 12-pound permit record, the 6-pound bonefish record and the 4-pound snook record.

 

Tim Holschlag: Midwest smallmouth expert and founding member of The Smallmouth Alliance. Author of the recently published Smallmouth Fly Fishing.

 

Annette McLean. Production manager of the Winston Fly Rod Co. and leader of Expo women’s programming.

 

Jim Teeny: Fly-line developer, author, world-class angler and fly fishing innovator.

 

Jerry Kustich. Author (recently published A Wisp in the Wind) and steelhead adventurer.

 

 

 

A host of regional fly fishing and fly tying instructors including Pat Ehlers of Milwaukee, muskie expert Bill Sherer, author Rich Osthoff of Wisconsin’s Coulee Region, smallmouth guide Tom Andersen, southeast trout expert and photographer Wayne Bartz and Great Lakes fly fishing guide Kevin Feenstra.

Thanks for the reference. Made it down today and it was well worth the two hour drive each way. Sat in on Larry Dahlberg's presentation and got a lot of good info in the tyers room. I was going to look you up, but forgot to check your booth number before I left. Sorry. Thanks again.
