stony 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Does anybody have a problem with the thread coming off the spool while it is in the bobbin? I don't have the problem when I use smaller diameter threads but as soon as I slap on the big fly thread, it doesn't seem to want to stay on the spool. How do you combat this annoying hindrance? British mike 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Not sure why this has happened to you, I have been tying for 37 years and have never had a thread de- spool while I am tying. What thread are you using? might be able to help with that information Mike............................
stony 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 It doesn't unravel while sitting in the box. When it is on the bobbin, the top end starts to unless I tighten it back down. Then I start wrapping on the hook again and if I try to free up some slack, it will start to fall off again. I am using Uni-thread big fly. 100 yd spool. The Goat 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Sounds like maybe your bobin is loose? I've had mine become loose before, but the thread never unraveled. When not in use, try storing your bobbins with the thread holders twisted together like they were when you bought them. Keeps 'em tight on the spool. They should look like this when there's not thread in them (Or close to it):
