willowhead 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Hi jrace, you gotta lotta good ideas goin' on there.......but i'd say that you need to get yourself some hooks with longer shanks in order to have the room to execute your ideas with more precision. Now don't get me wrong.....the extra length will never compensate for a lack of good technique.....but it will give you some room to work with. And again, i'm not knockin' your technigue.....it's just looks to me that you still need lots of practice. So don't try to do to much on such a small/short hook. Practice your proportions and REALLY take your time and go after each step of the dressing as if your planning to make the fly a gift to your future wife.....so-to-speak. If you don't like anything you do........go back, start it all over again and stay with it until you are as close to being COMPLETELY satisfied as you can possibly get. Be patiant.....trust me, i know how hard that is......i will contimue to struggle with it forever i think. But it's very important and also theraputic........tye when you have all the time you need........not when your rushed to have to do something else.
