Peterjay 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2013 You can go as sparse as you want to. I often don't even use a full collar, just a pinch above and a pinch below. It lets the body materials show and it'll sink faster. There's no right or wrong way to tie a deceiver. It's entirely dependent on what species you want to imitate, how you want the fly to sink, etc. A deceiver is just a style, rather than a pattern.
