FTF Fly Pattern - richyrichtherich - Megamos 2

I think the Database took a while to update, as I noticed the same problem yesterday. It seems to work OK now. -

Thanks John. Tying this one can be fiddly, but I think the results are worth it. Lightweight dry hooks have often let me down when playing fish above 5lb. These Wings seem to add a lot of boyancy and so a heavier hook will not sink the fly. Rich -

Thank you. I have not yet fished this pattern, but I am hoping it will do well at my local fishery. A 'Buggy Rabbit' dressing does not usually fail me, especially for the big Rainbows. If you try this pattern, any feedback on how it performs would be appreciated. All the best, Rich -

Well done. I am sure your fly tying will be very creative using this tool. It is great to see this post still active and the tool being made by so many members. Cheers. -

Yes, the body and tail are both Marabou. I use fibres from one feather for the tail, and another whole feather for the body. This fly is a killer for big rainbows, especially tied on a size 6. I had 8 fish in a few hours on a recent trip, ranging from 5lb to 8lb. I have only tied them in White so far, but have been thinking about trying Olive and Orange Marabou versions, with a contrasting colour for the Bead/Ribbing. Maybe 'Olive with Gold' and 'Orange with Green'.

This is what I do. Leave the hook in the up position while you wind the looped materials, then slide the hook down when you need to tie off. Then you have the slack you need to unhook the loop. I hope this helps. Rich -

Rich, why re-invent the re-invented wheel? I wasn't gonna tinker with something that I know you tinkered on enough to come up with a second, MarkII, version. I've got to much other chit I'm tinkering with right now. I made two, one with a paper clip and one with a bobby-pin, both I used the pen cartridge/tube like you did on the bobbin. Only thing was I had to secure the metal to the pen tube with a few wraps of thread to hold it in place while the CA dried and then I finished wrapping and whip finishing and just topcoated with nail polish. Kirk I am glad my idea has made it on to some others bobbins. Have fun with it. -

Before I decided to start this project, I did give consideration to the retail version. Good job the DIY version does the job. -

Go for it. I haven't put my HCT down since I made it. Kinda makes you wonder how the a retail bobbin can cost $$$!!! I would be interested to find out how your project goes. Rich.
