  1. Got really excited when I saw there was a new hellgrammite pattern in the latest Hatches magazine. I've aready read the thing cover to cover twice. I love fishing for smallmouth and nothing seems to work better than a hellgrammite pattern. I am confused however when I try to follow the step by step pattern as outlined? When you get to step 7 it tells you to palmer a hen hackle as you would a wholly bugger? Looking at the picutres it does not seem that the hen hackle is palmered at all but is simply tied in and the covered by the medallion sheeting material. Am I missing something here or am I not reading the instructions correctly? I have a trip planned for the James River here in a few weeks and I'd like to tie some of these up but I'd like to do it correctly. Can anybody steer me in the right direction?
