I am real new to this forum, just joined today and I already have a couple of questions. First; Someone gave me a beautiful rooster hackle (just butchered) and I am wondering how to keep it. Do I freeze it for a while to kill off any lice and mites? Are the hackles that you buy already cleaned and if so, how do you clean a fresh one? Then, I am going to try to tie a Clouser Minnow for my first fly. I want to use it for bass here in SW Minnesota. So what size hook should I use? Thanks for any suggestions.

My name is Candy and I live in SW Minnesota. I started fly-fishing about 12 years ago in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Health issues put it on the back burner for the past 8 years, but I am back and happy to be casting again. I am happiest just casting. There is something magical about watching that line and fly roll out on the water. I don’t really care if I catch anything. There don’t seem to be many fly rods here in SW Minnesota so I get some strange looks. But I am determined to prove that I can catch the warm water fish they have here. I am especially interested in the bass. Since most of the tackle shops here do not carry fly-fishing gear, I will have to learn to tie my own flies and will probably need a lot of help from all of you.
