  1. I will agree with Old Hat. I live on the North Umpqua and would recommend you buy some black stuff. Black is the color of your favorite fly here. I also agree that you want to get your fly down. Egg sucking leeches, Green butt Skunks, Purple Perils, Spawning Purples. You will need black, pink, and purple maribou. You can use dumbell eyes or lead wraps to get your fly down from Jan. 1- June 30 as long as it is incorporated in the dressing of the fly. You may not add weight to a fly or use split shot or any other means of getting the fly down. This rule is also in effect Oct. 1- Dec. 31. Any other time there is no weight allowed, period. http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/docs/2010_...ishing_Regs.pdf I like to use Hareline's Quick Descent dubbing. Spirit River sells it under the name Depth Advantage. They are both the same, very fine aluminum shavings that dub very nicely and sink. Heavy wire hooks are a plus. Remember, black black black. unless the water is really off color, then try the more colorful pink and purple stuff. The Umpqua is breathtaking, you must fish the fly water. The river does not give up its bounty easily, but you will not forget the experience. Send me a PM if this forum is capable of it. I will be happy to show you my home waters. If you can't PM me here, you can go on flyanglersonline.com and send a pm to me there. I'm in the members section under Backcaswards.
  2. I use several different brands, depending on what I am tying. Some companies don't make what I need. Gary
