  1. Yep, I have learned this from trial and error. Yep, I'm with ya, there. Oh yes. You can lump me in with all of those guys too. Thanks for all the info. I guess this is just knowledge that comes with time and I am trying to rush it a bit. I have been practicing with clousers but none of them look exactly the same (yet). Oh, and I am getting pretty good at not fainting at the sight of blood, a skill that I didn't know would be required for fly tying! :cursing:
  2. New to this sport and this site - I might as well get the dumb questions out of the way, even though I think I already can guess the answer, so here goes: I have recently learned to tie a clouser and understand that you can use what ever colors you think will work, but is it the same with materials? I see so many different types of hair, buck tail, deer belly, craft fur, rabbit fur, maribou, caribou, cat-man-do, the list goes on and on. Can all of these different materials be substituted for each other? I think the answer is "yes, it all depends on what you want the fly to do". So, if I am correct in my assumption, (uh oh, a second question) where do I find out the characteristics of what each material does? Thanks in advance. Tom
