Hello all, I'm wanting to produce a "mottled" effect on my olive
maribou streamers. These are being used in stillwaters fished
deep and slow from a float tube. The shank is weighted
when used with full sinking 6in per second lines have no problem
working the flys at or near the thermocline.
What type of marking pens would be recommended for
a two tone effect on the olive maribou? Below is a before
and after using a black sharpie chisel tip. Simply pressing
the tip against the maribou while the fly rests on a piece of
backing carboard allows the ink to "bleed" into the maribou.
Find this works better than trying to stroke or paint the
black ink into the maribou. Kinda like a ink pen blotting a
shirt when leaking into your pocket. As the ink starts to
dry I fluff it back out with a bodkin, preventing the individual
maribou fibers to become "stuck" together.
Curious what others are doing in this regard.
Cheers!
