letumgo 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 Thanks for sharing your successful grass carp pattern, Jindra. I have never fished for them, but can understand the attraction during the warmest part of the summer. Certainly worth trying. I like the technique you described in the pattern database. I've generally tyed in the marabou plume by the tip and wound it forward. Your technique eliminates the weakest part of the fly by replacing the center stem with the stronger tying thread and minimizes the bulk. Nice.

David Legg 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Firetiger: Grass Carp Candy <img src="uploads/img4b79eece3a980.jpg"> I like it. I tie something almost identical to it, and it works well for me when trout fishing in poor lighting. I think the movement is the trigger for trout. Mine has a white hackle, but other than that, nearly identical, down to the thread color. Interesting how different tyers can arrive at the same destination independently. Firetiger 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 Thanks guys I made the fly up to imitate a crud of grass to fish in a particular pool (former river harbour) where the locals throw mowed grass into river. Grass carp gater there in large quantities eating the stuff. Marabou feathers look great even when fished static, but I could not find them in the right color. So I created a mix of yellow and green fibres in spinning loop that give, once wet, the desired look. Durability is added plus, but I was not looking for it specifically, as the grass carp have no teeth to speak of. J.
