You can also selectively color multiple objects:
-
I do a similar technique to Vito. Duplicate the layer, then desaturize. For wanted effects, go to hues/saturation, check colorize, and set the hue to whatever color you want, and the saturation to 12 (my preference). Then add a layer mask, then color in black with the brush tool to reveal what you want (black reveals, white covers). Zoom in to color finer detail/edges.
Some useful hotkeys: "X" changes the foreground and background color between white and black. "[" and "]" change the size of the brush tool.
Its also helpful to open a second window wehn zooming in to see finer detail as you can view both the magnified picture and the regular size one. To open a second window, hit Window>Arrange>Add window...which should be at the bottom.
It takes more time and concentration because it is done by hand, but can be used on multiple objects in one photo.
The above 5 photos were taken by Len Harris of Wisconsin.
Here's a photo that I took and retouched...
For added effects, go to Levels after to adjust the level of the object you revealed (in this technique)

A fleeting Mallard

For dry cleaning, I use a piece of soft cotton fabric. The fingerprints/oils can be nasty though
-
Taken with a Nikon N8008. The pics are a tad blurry because I was using the telephoto lense, w/o a monopod.
This counts as a bird, right? Macro!
-
Is there any good Digital SLR that you can suggest that will be under $700 for the camera body? Especially one for outdoor/bird/animal photography.
A Few Macros..
