  1. The bugs will leave tomorrow!! Once again I want to thank a fellow swapmeister for asking me to tie a pattern that adds to my skill set. I spent a bit of time researching the whole subject of quills for this one ., I even tried 3 ways to come up with the quills other than buying them. As you might expect AK Best's fingerprints are all over these bugs. I still have a ways to go, but every journey starts when you take that first step!!! Thanks for hosting Mike you gave me a chance to spend some time doing what I want to do. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

  2. For my primary setup I have an old roll top desk. I took over a bedroom, so I have several rolling sets of drawers for materials. I also inherited a couple of sewing cabinets that have a roll down front over 11 drawers that are 12x18 and 3" deep.

However I am finding that your tying materials and flies will always expand to whatever room you have. I think my inventory of bugs has to be over 5000 by now. In addition to the flies I have tied, I have been in about 80 swaps. And the guy I fish with is a prolific tier who always give me a box when we go.

  3. Just to give you guys an update.

I have the new midge jaws for my Renzetti.

    I upgraded my mag eyes.

    The Benecchi 12/0 has arrived.

I have been making tools to hold and work on the materials. (Who would believe that you need a tool just to put the hook in the vice and not your finger!!! And oh by the way you have a better chance to win the lottery than you have of finding a hook you dropped!!)

I have done some practice on some 28's and I can dub a body and counterwrap it with some quills I stripped for another swap! (Who said there wasn't any use for those old cheap capes I bought.)

I am still working out the front end of the bug.

I do have one question. How the hell do I put a toe tag on these things!!!! I may put them on mounts or maybe send each one in it's own little tube.

I will send pics when I get my new computer. Mine just gave up the ghost. Fortunately, Bellingham has a nest of geeks, wizards, saviors, who were able to glean a lot off my flaming hard drives and save me a great deal of pain.

And I took a little time off to celebrate the Big 60. <_< <_< <_<

  4. I got mine today. I always enjoy doing the swaps here. I use it as a way to see what you guys tie, and as a way to keep pushing my envelope. I have joined the micro fly swap. I don't think I would have tried to tie a size 30 fly just for the helluvit. :wallbash: But on this site you get to see all the great tyers. And all of us who are working at it! And I counted my Altoids tins the other day and I am now in swaps 85-89. And my tying has gotten a lot better!! So thank you all who put themselves up to the scrutiny of your peers. We all have to go through the eye of the needle to get where we want to go.

  5. BB:

I want to send you a special thanks for hosting a bunch of "gill" swaps. I just spent a week with all my brothers on territory we haven't seen for 50 years. And we got to chase spiny rays using flies from the swaps!!! It was priceless. We used to fly fish in the 50's and stopped. They are all hooked on it. Thanks again.

Let me know when we can get to meet for a tour of your new digs. I also know a few other fly guys in your area.
