  3. I'm Done........ :yahoo: I was going to tie a beadtail caddis---orange and black, then I noticed I had some Larva Lace--glow material in a bin..... So, I tied up one of my Death Stoneflies in orange and black with the glow material.........they look neat......and even neater when you turn the lights out.........not a christmas tree bulb glow........but an erie soft halloween glow..... I use this fly for salmon in New York........... I'll mail them the first of October
  4. yeah........I second that what the heck was that? not sure how a streamer in a river can be compared to an air balloon???
  5. welp, finished them up last night.........they are boxed and ready to SHIP.........I will get them in the mail on October 1 I included 5 bucks for return shipping and a priority mail label.........
  6. FAT GUY RUNNING !!! hahaha I love it when the GUIDE lines, snags, lifts a fish for his client to reel in.......I had a guy once walk right in front of me and jump up on a tree stump......I go, whoaa buddy, what the hell ya doing......he said, I am a local and catch more fish here than you ever will-- I go...ahhh OK BUDDY......he proceeded to cast and RIP......no poop......what a dork.... I was on the black river once near the dam......saw a guy who lived right there working fish all morning...him and his 3 goonies........they must have caught and killed over 25 salmon........it was like a gauntlet..........they would string up a few...then drag them to the house--REPEAT........this dude even had the balls to ask if he could have our fish......I told him to get lost and released the fish........some people just flat out abuse the resource PS...I have a friend on the river NOW......he said a big push came through DSR........he has been up there since Sunday and has done pretty good.......he keeps moving around......said the Fly Zones have fish.......he caught a bunch of browns and lost one that was over 10 pounds........he has been catching a mix bag of fish......darn do I wish I was up there.......
  7. viva mexico I am pretty sure there isn't a steelhead on the East Coast that wouldn't smack that thing Holy crap agradable mosca de pesca or at least that's what the translation said !!! holy crap, nice fishing fly
  8. rich have to hate that.......sometimes, the idea of catching a fish just takes over and some folks turn into jerks.......I was with my father one year......upstream of the town bridge and fishing riffles.....we stayed tight to the bank.......NOBODY else around.......entire section was void of people......along came two yahoos........one yahoo went right next to me and made a cast.......he looked at me......I looked at him......he left......then his buddy comes into the same place.....so now I have a guy on my left shoulder and one guy 8 feet downstream standing in the RUN.......welp, my rod was 10.5 feet long........a cross of the arms.......and a near whack to the guys head......he didn't budge........what a tool......we just packed up and left.......I try my darndest when I am up there to get away from people.......it is the safest thing to do.....but, in the next month or so, it will be almost impossible........
  9. I went to the shed the other night to start tying up the Halloween Flies........wouldn't you know it.........I was out of hot orange WIRE........Hmmffff So, I ordered some wire........tying them up soon !!!
  10. nice fish........craft store balls, they never work :hyst: -- I like around the holidays when they have the crystal pom-poms in cool colors........nothing easier than some thread, drop of glue.....run the ball on the hook.......done..........simplest salmon fly in the world I'm pretty I will be missing Pulaski this year.......sniffles rainbow.......DSR or up river???
  11. I was thinking you actually took a GUM DROP candy and placed a veil over it.......that would be one SWEET steelhead fly :jumpy:
  12. Whoooa Whoooa Whooooa time to make the chum bucket !!!
  13. not sure of the rest of the guys..........I assure you, my pattern isn't a fancy one from the west coast..... the fly I sent in for the swap was in the works for a few years............I got tired of tying up intricate stonefly patterns for salmon fishing and have them look like crud after 1 or 2 fish............I developed my Death Stonefly for the Salmon running in Lake Ontario Tributaries........mostly the Salmon River............it is big, not too flashy, with the materials used--it is pretty durable..........I wanted something simple in design, yet effective..........this is the fly I came up with........you can tweek it any way you want....... add legs, antennae etc.......I have pics on my website of the fly, in different color schemes............I have learned over the years to try to keep the patterns to a minimum but the colors, the colors need to be everywhere............so, I generally pick a handfull of reliable patterns and tie that pattern in a few different colors.............I try to stick with the same premise for steelhead.........different sizes too...... I used to waste plenty of time onthewater trying to decide what fly to use..........so many different ones in my box...now, just a few patterns that I know will produce--just in plenty of colors.........you need to have confidence in your fly
  14. I'm in.........I'll do a small woolhead sculpin size 8 or a midge of some sort
  15. that sounds pretty interesting saltydog Yeah, I like the MOE but I just get lower on patience playing with epoxy as the years pass. I think the plastic beads provide a similar effect, I use the plastic beads that are used for rigging saltwater rigs. The dubbing brushes add more weight and speed up tying. This whole color scheme works nice in claret too. I hope you enjoy it and find it productive. well, with my shoulder being the way it is........not sure how much longer glue eggs are on my menu.....tough to keep the vice rotating with an arm that really hurts........so, I might be heading to beads in the near future......I just love the way you can make an egg look with the glue.......clear, slightly blurred--clear glue gives a cloudy look........tie in some thread before you lay the glue on.......you get some cool looking eggs.........maybe I will stay with glue....just eat a few tylenol before hand.........ahah
  16. nice pic.........I love craft store beads............
  17. that sounds pretty interesting saltydog
  18. "the whores are in route" BD5485 :yahoo: My flies are done and I have the addy.....thanks geo......I will try to post tomorrow
  19. a disco leech......hmmm do tell............
  20. I wrote a song once called LEECHES--probably back in 1994 or so......it was HEAVY in the dark the people they scream, in the dark the leeches cling attached to my skin--releasing my soul-- withdrawal of blood I cannot control........I can't seem to stop the FLOWWWW can't totally remember........ but it ended with: the leeches....the leeches....you must fear what is funny, is that I can remember something from over 20 years ago......but probably couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday...........where are my keys........???? HAHAH
  21. Did I make it IN........I LOVE HALLOWEEN
  22. Hmmmm............. trying to think of what colors do the most damage when I am up there....... my death stonefly that I tie works in a bunch of colors, best being Blue / Black or just black or black / chartreuse Egg colors vary--best color being PEACHY ESTAZ, chartreuse, orange, yellow -- don't want to forget that one killer pattern is a fly that is 1/2 pink estaz and 1/2 chartreuse estaz--works wonders Streamers colors: olive / black is my favorite or a big leech pattern that is 1/2 black 1/2 chartreuse I like my flies on the large size and take the angle of ticking the salmon off to strike the fly.........I fish broken water......as stated above, I concur that they are more aggressive when on the move or in broken water.......but there have been times when I can spot a small pod of fish, usually one female with 4-5 females......the males are super aggressive and usually snap at anything you swing near them.......it is very possible to catch all the males around the female.......when released--they tuck right back next to the female.......all the males want to mate with the chickie.........can't blame them there!!! It has been long noted that COHO like red--but as stated above, the ability to see RED is the first to go??? My dad loves an orange Death Stonefly and RED isn't too far behind......both kings and cohos like the orange......... we have caught fish up there, as has everyone else, that are usually olive in color, then a dark olive in color, black in color and last but not least-- the white chunked fish--those that should be dead, but are somehow swimming around and still striking a fly... I get to the river late October.........so I miss the chance to fish down low for fresh silver kings or cohos.......and if by chance I make a run earlier in the year.........I stay upriver.........I try to keep away from the crowds.......... Most guys love to fish a fly called FLEA........bright red or hot red with white whisps out the front and back.........I have caught salmon with this fly DEEP inside their mouths.............. This information should bring about great conversation............
  23. I'm In..... a moe egg head mini-leech..........I use it for Steelhead on Erie Tribs -- not sure what color I will do
