Over 2 thousand now. At 700 dollars new, he is sure to triple his money.

One thing I might pass on to you is when I have made foam flies in the past that didn't work too well is because I tied the foam down too tight taking all the floatation out of the foam. Did not sit high on the water very well. The moose and elk will obviously float but I wander if the tail / hook end might go under. Other than that , that sucker would catch fish where I go.

SILKHDH,you are right on all accounts. It is a stinger hook with a bead to act as a joint. The mono loop is both to hold the bead AND act as a dropper loop. More info and SBS here
I went to the site to see the fly tying steps. knarly. I like that!!

When you have a custom-made 100% oak (from your own property in IN) fly tying table, but don't have a dinner table...Before...(just moving in)
Now....
Epic fly tying station. I can only hope to have something like that some day!
Can someone tell me what the white panels with the strips on them are. The ones on each side of the desk and on the wall. I want some.

JS always makes me laugh.

I assume the person who started this forum is in the United States too. I have no knowledge of foreign regulations.

To answer the actual question you asked, pheasant is probably the one bird the you WILL get the most use of. Every feather on it has some type of use. Especially the tail. Mallard too. Use the duck CDC feathers (Google It) and Wing Quills for Dry fly wings, flank feather for all sorts of fly parts. I use Green Wing Teal small flank feathers and body feathers as a Partridge sub all the time. Makes a real nice soft hackle, plus it has nice striped pattern that looks really speckled when wrapped around a hook. Looks great. Goose and Turkey primary feathers (ON THE LEADING SIDE ONLY) will have nice biots. The little stiff barbules on the leading edge of the feather. Make nymph legs and tails, small wing buds, ext. Turkey wing and tails make great Muddler Minnows . Turkey fluff around the butt is awesome marabou. You got a duck a pheasant and a turkey, you can tie a hell of a lot of flies.

This has been brought up before. FACT!!!! The only song type birds (small birds) that you can kill or even have feathers in your possession are English Sparrow, Starling, and Pigeon. If there isn't a season for it. You can't have it. PERIOD!! Doesn't matter if you found it dead in your yard, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT IN YOUR POSSESION. The jay you heard of is imported. Eurasian Jay.
Not north American Blue Jay. That's a NO NO. Same for King Fishers. Must be imported species. Non native to North America. Can come with a hefty fine. I have spent much time on the phone with the Federal Fish and Game on this. I suppose you can use regular Black Crow for something. You can shoot them during season. You probably can't afford Fruit Crow, but who can at 10 dollars for one 3/4" long feather. LOL. Stick to ducks, turkey and pheasant. No problem there.
Borax dries the skin, but does nothing to the bugs. Freezing kills the bugs. You need to do both to do it right.

Thank you Blane, will check it out. Right now.

flyDology,
The Stinger Stone...What am I looking at? Is that one hook through the whole fly with a funky bend in it? Is it jointed and the rear hook is tied to a hook that has been cut off? I see mono at the rear. Is that only to hold the bead in place, or is to tie a dropper from. Very cool! I'm just confused. Please explain the construction. The Foam Stone looks good too. Looks like a great Hopper, dropper, dropper set-up to me. Yes I said two droppers.

Can anyone tell me a store that might be in Kansas that would have that? We have Hobby Lobby.

the link below has tungsten for 11.99 for 100 beads. brass beads are 8.99 for 200 beads. that would be my choicehttp://www.riplipsfishing.com/index.php
i think beads are beads. they all come out of some factory in china or korea.
they are all round and either have a counterbored or countersunk hole. some now come with a slot
wholesale fly tying houses buy them by the gazillion and distribute them to retailers
Maybe it's because I'm not registered there, but I don't see any sizes for any of those beads. When you click on the item, a box pops up with 2, 4, or 7 and a price. It's very vague. Do you have to register in order to see anything extra?
Regards,
Mark
Make sure you pick "online store" to go shopping. I did the same thing.

I've always used a straight razor blade bent to the profile in my fingers. One swoop and the round top of a popper is done. But when doing a diver that is tapered was a little tricky. This might be worth a try. Hell, I'm excited. WO HOO!!! "Honey, I'm going to Walmart, I'll be right back!!!!"

I don't know what my problem is. I used the Rite, but when I rewind the thread back on the spool, like after wrapping dubbing and I am retrieving the slack string, I make the adjustment of the bobbin change. I always have to fiddle with it every time I retrieve slack. Its like the click setting in my Rite is too loose. Good old griffin in my palm is hard to beat. My hand is the drag setting. I never have to fiddle with it. Does anyone else have this problem when using the Rite? I would like to know. Or do I just suck.

I still got the vise from that..lol The other stuff ..who knows where it is.

May I ask how the beak was made? Is that just thread built up with clear cure (or equal) on it?
