    Happy Birthday Mike

Thanx guys..........no stream for me today.........first, my sons basketball game and then off to see "The Return of The King"..................
  2. Good to hear!!!!.............Even though I am 10-12 hours away from the "Salt", I really enjoy all your posts and am looking forward to next Summer when i can try out some of the patterns you have posted on the Cape.........
  3. The hard drive won't be difficult to replace........you shouldn't need any tech help.....just be careful of static electricity........It will take longer to open up the tower than it will to pull the old hard drive out and slip in the new one.
  4. I don't know how long they have been out, but the "Scenic rivers" Plate now has a Smallmouth jumping on it............how cool is that?
  5. Yeah, i know your busy right now................just something to keep in mind for the future.................. thanx, mike
  6. I had the misfortune several years ago of planning a weekend at "Ohio power Lands"............Little did i know that one of those "5 year broods" had hatched the week before. When i got there, the ground was littered with all these dried out husks and the fish were in "food comas".............If memory serves me, i think this hatch lasts several weeks.........
  7. Will, for what it's worth.......according to the map at the Cincy zoo, you are at "ground zero".........smack dab in the center of this "hatch".
  8. What do you think about putting everyones hometown/State(or Country) under their name? maybe even creating a regional directory........as more people join the site, it's harder to remember where everyone is from and if someone has questions about a specific area, they could check the directory and pm them......just a thought. Mike
  9. Sorry about your loss......... Mike
  10. OK guys/gals..........all of you that live in Kentucky, Southern Ohio, and SE Indiana might want to read on.........I took the family down to the Cincy zoo Sunday evening for the "festival of lights". During our tour, we popped into the insect house and they had a nice display on Cicadas. While looking this over, I found out that the above mentioned "Brood X" will reappear this coming Summer!!!!!! For those of you old enough to remember the Summer of 87, we were overrun!!!!!!!! I remember fishing, and every single species out there was gorging themselves on these things!!!!!! As I recall, the "hatch" lasted for several weeks. they were so thick and loud, you couldn't hear anything else! BDH may "have it goin' on" this Summer with his poppers...........
  11. Thanx for the pics............!!!!
  12. Wow.............nice picture............i would have to have that framed and sitting right above my bench.............
  13. Here it is.......... www.reel-time.com/fishwire/capecod you can get a lot of good general information off here and I'm sure a number of the members here would help you fill in the blanks. Of course i will be listening to. I'm going up in July (which has already been pointed out to be not such a good time, but thats when the kids are on break). maybe i can sneak away in the Fall for a couple days........
  14. Back to your original questions.........i of course have no experience or expertise in Striper/Blue fishing, but also have a strong desire to experience it and with my brother moving up there i may now have the opportunity. I actually found this website from a Cape Cod flyfishing website (someone was raving about your game so i came over to check it out) I will dig up the web address for you. it's pretty informative. A lot of tips and goos discussions.......Of course some of the guys from up there may have some better info. for you.......
  15. I've never gone out specifically looking for cats, but in thinking about it, everyone i ever caught was on some kind of nymph.......usually a bigger one (or mid size depending on your perspective) size 8-10.......and no specific pattern really........In fishing the same waters, i have never caught one on a streamer or crayfish pattern......but I know they feed on them?????????
  16. Have you ever seen anyone catch the actual "stripers" in the Ohio?
  17. Hey Smallie, i know it's not quite the same, but It seems to me that they have landlocked Stripers in the Ohio.......(it maybe some kind of hybrid), but I have seen pictures of some pretty big ones. From what i have read, they generally deep troll for them, but if memory serves, they hit schools of them on the surface as well.........i fish for "Wipers" (some kind of non-reproducing hybrid between stripers/white bass I believe) at kiser lake which is about 30 minutes North of Dayton on rte. 235...........what a ball!!!!! they average 2-3 pounds, but every once in a while you hit a big boy!!!!! my personal best is 5#, but my buddy caught a seven# once and i know they get a lot bigger..........boy do they fight!
  18. I have never seen any gar in the rivers near my house though I am sure there must be some in the lower portions (below all the dams) near the Ohio River because i know there are both Gar and Bowfin in the Ohio........I am going to have to try to get down there this summer........When I lived in Massachussetts, i use to catch a lot of Chain Pickerel, a lot of people considered them trash fish, but i sure enjoyed them....
  19. Hopefully I'll get mine in the next couple days........i can always use some tips on my deerhair..........
  20. Yeah, I'm sure there are worse.......io just thought it was funny.........my brother moved up there this past summer after living on the west coast for the pat 15 years...........the first thing he told me was that he couldn't believe the traffic and drivers.......he drives an old, semi restored IH Scout (in other words, a tank). He said that he has learned to "drive aggressively". He is now proud of the fact that people get out of "his" way. My wife and i got a good laugh out of it all. some examples: In ohio, you always look for that one car to run the red right after the light changes.....In Mass., there will be 2-3 of them. In 4 days of driving there, I had 3 occassions where I was sitting in the left turn lane waiting on the arrow, as soon as it changed, I had a car turn in front of me from the center thru lane who decided to make a left turn instead of going straight at the last minute. I think what topped it all off for us was the fact that no one seemed to get angry, no horns, flying fingers, screaming, road rage.....nothing. It's like it's just all accepted, no big deal. All said, we had a great time. I actually lived up there 20 years ago (Chicopee). I got introduced to fly fishing on the Swift & Deerfield rivers.....used to hit Quabbin res. quite a bit to. I'd like to move back to New England someday (after retirement of course).
  21. I was up in Pembroke last week............unfortunately i don't think i can swing another trip up there for awhile............Nothing personal, But you guys have some of the worst drivers up there that I have ever seen..........my brother tried to warn me, but until you experience it first hand.............wow!
  22. Welcome aboard............... Mike Dayton, Ohio
  23. The only top water fly i have ever taken them on is a "mulberry"......otherwise, to echo what everyone else has said, just about any nymph, crayfish imitation has worked for me...........I've been taken into my backing many a time......It seems like they have a lot of power on the first run, but not much stamina after that.......
  24. thanx........guess I'll have to do some suckin' up a couple days prior......
  25. John, thanx for taking the time to post the photos........
