What colors are taken? I need to plan accordingly.
-
Do you tie them on like dumbbells or do you slip one on the shank?
-
so your supposed to cut the thing strand in the center and the whole thing comes undone?
-
How do you get the darn things off and how should they be used? Thanks

Are there any more of these contests more in the Great Lakes region? It sounds different to say the least!

If there is room for me... then I am DEFINITELY in!

I just got home today, and in the preparations for our trip,I didn't have time to check the site. We went for to my grandparent's house for Christmas and didn't have Internet access. They should be over at the neighbor's house. I loved doing this and hope that there are many more kid swaps to come!

4 of the 6 tiers in the Kid's Swap that you are in are girls.

That site is great! The audio is crystal, but the video was skitterish. I think this depends on the computer.

Sounds like my great-grandmother's yard! When I was young, I would run around her yard and find all sorts of feathers. Kids are always eager to help, if you make it a game then you end up with more than you can count.
-
Good points! Any other places?

One thing that I found out is that if you go to farms that have chickens, hoses, goats, sheep, or any other livestock, the owners are most likly to give you wool and feathers for free!! we have a peacock farm nereby... and I have peacock to boot. There is a family that raises chickens... I have over 100 chicken feathers( courtesy of the kids that were eager to find as many feathers as they could). If you just ask around, people don't think that you are paying a couple of $ for a few feathers when they have them everywhere. Try it, it works!

Thank you. I didn't put the layer of thread down, I just tied the foam on and then used head cement. By the way... What will foam ants get you fish wise? Thanks, I would love all your feedback.

Thanks. The reaason I asked is because of this particular incident on the water. My friend and I were fishing a "hidden" pond and on my first cast, I caught this beautiful bass. I caught many more nice bass after that. then, The temerature dropped and you could feel it dropping. Within 15 min. the temperature 10-15 degrees or more and started rainigwhile the fish stopped biting immediatly. Please try and make heads or tails of this for me nd tell me what you think. Thanks again. I love this site and all the people that are so helpful and willing to share information.

I got my hands on some foam to tie ants with and I couldn't keep the foam in 1 place while I tied. Is there anything I can do to prevent this slippage? Thanks.

I was wondering if there was a way to predict if the fish were biting by looking at the barometer. Can anyone help?

Do any of you have fly tying stuff on your Christmas lists?
Without them, the list would be down to two or three things.
-
You should have seen my first flies. The head was two or three times bigger around than the body, I tied over the eye, had the but of the hackle sticking out, and the list goes on. OLB is right, I haven't been tying for a year, but every so often I look at my first flies and am amazed. The longer you tie, the more natural it feels.Keep tying and trying.

Done! Now I need the address.

Hey... quick question. I was wondering how many to send in cause I have them almost finished( tonight maybe). And this might sound silly, but do you send one in for yourself?:dunno: Just for future reference. Thanks
-
So my advice:
target the young people. Kids ages 12-16 are alot more interested in fly fishing than you think. Offer kid tying classes. Kid fishing weekends. Kid showcase for pictures and flies.
Young people are the future, and they have parents that need to spend time with them. Get the kids interested in it and many parents will follow. Mine did.
You nailed it swinks1966. Talking from experience.

Thank you so much. No the way the herl are is not how it was planned, I have made better ones but I gave them away( my aunt makes the flies into ear rings) and that was what was left over. Thank you for the suggestions and please try it out and post the results.

I'll be doing a Black Woolly Bugger. The nearest fly shop is about an hour away, so I've got to make due.

would this be a woolly bugger or would this fall under a different category? I wouldn't mind some feedback. Thanks
