  1. I just have material on mine, and not much of them. I made a small portble station so I can tie wherever, on the kitchen table, or on the porch when it is nice out. No dedicated area yet.
  2. Beginners Corner...post your ugly flies here....OK! I have been tying a lot of simple Clousers. My first fish on a fly was on one(a Puffer fish of all things!), store bought as was the first fish I caught on one I tied myself(LM Bass). Quite a rush. I had the simplest of tools, my daughter bought me a starter kit as a gift. I fish both fresh and salt and fell into some easy flies. The black spider has been a good item. I have gotton a bunch of Bluegill on that one. The foam dragonfly came to be when I was casting the spider this summer and noticed almost every time I pitched it out a red dragonfly would buzz it. The surrounding fish seemed more interested in that than my fly, until it flew off. Hmmm....give em what they want! The other set is the saltwater flies that work well in the Indian River Lagoon. The final 3 flies are something I wanted to try, to ramp things up a bit. I had been offered a whole pile of supplies from an guy that bought 10x whatever he needed when he started fly tying. I sorted through the stuff and found some cards that had some neat flies and materials, but no real instructions to follow. I had the materials listed and thought this might actually be a good warmwater fky here. So here is my version of it.
  3. New guy checking in on this one. I am new to this and had not seen this style before. Guessing at the time involved it must be a work of love, or art. I can appreciate it for sure. My fumble fingers will never allow me to attempt anything near this level. Nice to look at. For those who toil at this there has to be a great deal of satisfaction. Keep posting them and folks like me will be amazed.
  4. Thanks for the welcome! Up until now I haven't thought much about taking pics of my flies, just getting the fish in focus has been enough of a challange!
  5. Mad Skills! Looking at the small pics I assumed they were foam. They looked cool....I was amazed when I clicked on them!
  6. I do a lot of pond hopping in my neighborhood. We have a lot of drainage canals and water retention ponds that seem to be all interconnected and have good populations of the usual suspects. My "got to" fresh water set up is an Echo Carbon 2wt. matched with an Orvis BBS1 reel. It has a nice fast action and nice feel to it. The smallest fish give good feedback on strikes and strong enough for the occasional big Bass. Rod/ Reel/ Line new for under $300. For 4wt I have a TFO Lefty Kreh with a TFO Prism reel. I don't think I have $200 in that setup. It does the job when the wind picks up. But I really am enjoying the ultralight style of fishing lately, seems like the lighter the rod the more I use it!
  7. Nice place you have here. I am in South Florida and have been tying simple Clousers and easy foam critters for anything that will bite. We have a pretty nice fishery area here with a lot of fresh water urban ponds that have Bass and Gills and the Indian River Lagoon for salt water fun and the ocean of course. I started out buying tied flies from the local shop and having fun. On my birthday a couple years ago, my daughter bought me a kit that had a cheap travel vise simple tools and a small amount of materials, enough to tie the patterns in the instruction book. A whole lot of fun. I wound up getting a ton of tying materials when I inherited a huge collection of material from a guy that was getting into tying before he passed away. He must have bought 10x whatever he thought he might need of everything. So I have a good stash of material. I put aside the old clamp on vise and splurged on a Dan-vise and some decent tools. I am looking forward to learning from you folks here in the future.
