  1. I did not have any sales and put 0 for my quarter. Nothing was done with this. I submit through my state. I am going to contact and see what all i have to do on my income tax. I did not break 600.00 so not sure how it w2ill work
  2. I am a fan of Allen Hooks
  3. I found the EP site. There are a lot of patterns on there that look very easy to tie. WIll be picking some of this stuff up on my next order. I am thinking of tying the bluegill, crappie, and yellow perch paterns. Any colors you guys like especially for these flies?
  4. Wow! sure beats the table in my den and tote of material. LOL
  5. I was just playing with the duck material my VP gave me. I thought this looked similar to an adult crappie but after thinking about the coloring on a "baby" crappie as stated in the post above, this may be too dark. I think it will still catch fish though. Do you guys think the duck will give off a much more slender patern in the water. I think i may add more peacock as well to give it a more green top. Thanks again. This EP material looks like a way better material. Maybe use that then place the duck at the head and place an eye on that part.
  6. Thanks guys. Will be trying these soon. The lake has an abundance of small panfish and i know the toothy critters eat them. Hope to post pictures in a whil.
  7. http://www.allenflyfishing.com/mp001-multipurpose-stinger/ Do you guys think this will work in size 6 or 4 i would want to create a pattern that is 3 to 5" long. Thanks for the clarification on the material and such. Warm Water is a whole new world to me.
  8. What are the eyes made from. And what hooks are those.I want to get a better hook than standard streamer hooks. I like those patterns and thanks for the insight
  9. The EP is a type of material. I am placing a hairline order soon and want to get some material to create these baitfish paterns. I was thinking of adding some peacock to the top to give the pearlescent look.
  10. I have seen many sunfish pattern. I am looking to be able to tie a crappie that would be roughly 3" long. I fish a Spillway and often when reeling in panfish the pike and musky come out of no where and smack them. I had caught of few this way. I really want to create a crappie patern. I had used some of that duck that my boss had gave me to create a quick patern but i think once in the water the fibers will shrink down and have more of a minnow shape than a panfish. I performed a google seach but only got patterns that are created to catch crappie not mimic them. Any help will be appreciated.
  11. I like Allen Fly fishing Hooks. Great company with decent prices.
  12. My boss was just on a Maryland duck hunting trip and gave me some redhead feather. I love the dark burgandy color on the flank feathers. Any good ties with this material?
  13. as long as the fish like them thats all that matters
  14. Will keep note on that. She is more emotional. I could beat her until she is near death and it would be less effective as telling her "YOUR BAD!" in a stern voice. Just thought I would mention that i never beat her though.
  15. This turned into a great thread really quick!
  16. I think he can cast better than me. LOL just have to watch out when my labrador is close by. he likes to use her as a target. LOL she is a great dog and just lets him practice. I think "my" dog will soon turn into his. I watched her go from protective over him, to not caring, to jealous, and now she just loves him. Brings him toys to share. Lets hime beat her and pat her. I love labs.
  17. You wont regret the descision. It is great to teach people to tie. Many of my best customers have been instructed on how to tie my custom stuff. I would rather see more get involved in our hobby and see the enjoyment that i do than make a buck. Not great business practice but i never was much of a businessman anyway. I am not the best tyer out there but one thing i do say about my flies is that you will catch fish. If a customer doesn't i let them send the flies back to me. Then i take these flies, catch fish, and send them the pictures. LOL it is part of my guarantee so to speak. I am trying to get out of the mentality of being a fly fisherman, so i can hit up these fly shops with perfectly proportional flies and great looking patterns. I just cant let people be the judge of my flies, I let that up to the fish
  18. Similar practice for me as well. I do special orders though. I try to get at least a 15.00 order. If you are contemplating, this i would highly suggest getting a business number and get set up at wholesale. It will save you about 50% material cost per fly or more.
  19. .......Your pointer and thumb figers have calluses from plucking dubbing. ........You wake up at 4:30 am to tie, go to work then tie on your lunch break Anyone else have any?
  20. I typically charge 1.00-1.25 for nymphs, and 1.50 for streamers. I charge 2.00 and more for crayfish and stuff like that. I will be getting into bass flies and such but not good enough to sell. I will sell at lower cost if a customer wants that. I know my ties are worth more than that in most cases but I want people to buy them. Most of my guys like my custom stuff. They also like that if they are going fishing tomorow i will do my best to get them the flies they need quick. I try to gage it that i will make 12.00 to 20.00 an hour on flies. If not it is not really worth it to sacrifice my free time.
  21. I tie for a few guys in my area. A few forums i belong to guys contact me to do an order. I do not make a living this way but it does add a few bucks for gear, that my wife can't yell about. I get up early and tie before work or tie on my lunch break. I started this when my wife was on maternity leave and we needed more income to make it. I made about 400.00 the first month. I slacked off a bit. If you have a business number you can also get set up with hairline and save tons of money on material. This is worth it to me and you are covered with taxes. I love hearing feedback and such on my flies. Getting satisfied customers to repeat, I thought of branching out to fly shops and such but I feel that I am happier just supplying the little guys and keeping it personal. I have made friendships, and shared a few honey holes. These are worth more than the extra cash for buying gear. Plus you can never be over stocked. LOL
  22. Nice blog as well. I need to start using a dubbing loop on some of my paterns. i bet squirrel would be a nice material.
  23. My uncle made me one for a graduation present. I broke the tip off of it. I loved it when i used it. Fenwhick normally has promotions online where you get some gear with a purchase.
