Brownsville Scruffy Muddler

Made a few minor changes to the original; heavier hackle, a shoulder and denser head because I want it to float.

Brown Barn Owl Muddler

Got away from this head shape for a while. If I get the chance in April, may give this a go as a Skwala; colors are close enough and I’ve had good luck with bright olive flies that don’t look anything like the naturals.

McPhillips’ Muddled Golden Octopus

The Ice Dub is much closer to golden olive than true orange (wish I had bought 2 more bags of it); not sure the 2nd shoulder was necessary but it gave me a chance to see how much I could stuff on a hook.

If the thread spools don’t turn freely in the bobbin, try adjusting the tension; a little nose grease on the feet helps, too.  You may have a slight nick in the bobbin tube (unlikely if it’s a ceramic); roll up a piece of #600 wet/dry sandpaper, insert it in the tube and twist it a bit to smooth out any rough edges.
