  2. Hi, I want to make some streamers that require a dubbed body, can I use a polyester yarn or will that add too much bouiancy. could I use yarn or floss instead of dubbing, The streamers are little brown trout and brook trout bucktails
  3. that is defiantly to neat and clean to be a fly tying station. you need clutter lots of it. I do like the hand gun for fending of interuptions

  9. Hi, I want to replace my 3.5 kit scissors with something that cuts closer. I got a cheap kit of tools and the scissors don't cut as close as I like does any body know of a brand that would cut closer and is reasonable, I can't pay a lot. DR. Slick has some nice ones but I don't know how close they cut. Thanks
  10. ok tied my first 14 actually a little easier than a 12, but one thing I am having trouble with is tieing down the wing case at the eye. When I tie it it rolls the fibers over on the back of the hook, what am I doing wrong
  11. a lot of good advice, I wish I had it before I started back. I bought a tool kit. Don't. I couldn't figure out how to use the whip finisher so I bought a Materelli, I had used that before, I also replaced the vise, and the dubbing spinner. Buy what you need at what you can afford and you won't waste money by buying tools you don't need or buying twice. good luck
  12. thanks I guess what I have will work, the only think is the wire from the coil is rough fron being wound the way it was
  13. I got some wire from a florescent fixture coil but that is a little bug, some from telephone cord that is better but I thing to hard what size or gauge am I looking for or don't it matter that much

  15. Thanks for your insight, I was tying on #10 for 2 reasons that is what I got to learn on, small enough but not to small, I have gone down to 12 and have ordered some 14s. I try to ty correctly at first. thanks
  16. yea I hear ya, I first started to tie in ty in the 60s then again around 1990 but it is alot easier now with utubes and this forum
  17. thanks I try that, but the flare is when I am preparing it to tie, it fans out so much I can't even put it on the hook
  18. Hi this hair does come from the top of the tail and it is not flaring when I ty it is fanning out when I stroke it to remove the long hairs
  19. Hi, I am tying a mickey Finn on a larger hook, #4 4XL. But when I pull out the long hairs it makes the whole bunch fan out when the length is long, what am I doing wrong
  20. Hi, I have watched some videos and when I tie I try to use no more thread than I need and not crowd the eye yet when I am finishing thew head I end up with a glob of thread what am I doing wrong.
