Flat Rock native Do I understand correctly  that you use a modified  cheese cutting board as a platform for your J vise .

Let’s just say.. I can if I want, but the trapeze extendo bar adds an element of danger, tying on the move and such🙄

I spent the weekend doing household chores I had been procrastinating on so I didn't get much time to tie many flies. Below is two days worth of tying. Both are deceivers - a pattern I am working on but have not perfected.

😎 * Some highly technical vice-vise-vise term, with which I am not familiar...😎

Four pound counter-weight, base platform, will let you tie 5/0 all day on the J-vice, drill the holes 10mm, or 3/8 as needed, or mill out the cheapo C-Clamp to 10mm.  Commercial base made for 10 mm and it holds the Dan -Vise stem... $25..

Here's my favorite frog fly I modified from a few similar patterns. I don't make them weedless but you can if you want to. The eyes I use are the craft store doll eyes which i like since they are big and rounded. Probably doesn't matter buts its a confidence thing with me. If it has eyes, I'll seem to catch more. You can add some lead wire near the bend of the hook to get that semi submerged look, or even flatten split shot and glue it between the foam near the bend if you like.

    • Eagle Claw bait holder (size 2 or 1)
    • With/Green foam , glued together
    • White dubbing
    • Rubber legs
    • Eyes

    Awesome build... Thanks for posting

I believe the stem on the J-vice is 10 mm not 3/8" that is common on American vises. You would probably have to modify any American clamps or bases to fit.

The stem on this one is 3/8ths.. Here is a 7/0 WY Shark with detachable 5/0 stinger....  Followed by #20

I really like the look of the J vise but I was put off by the fact the pedestal      Is the large boards. I like a vise that has a normal size base and had the option of a clamp mount.

Stay tuned for a work around using c-clamp from economy vise....

That one is a favorite fly, not my absolute favorite soft hackle but one of them. My favorite is a Partridge and Orange but I didn't have any Partridge.

This fly is just a really great fish catcher in any environment. Bass, panfish, browns, brookies, rainbows... anything. I bet if you could find a feather big enough you could catch tarpon on them. That's why it's one of my favorites. Simple to tie and a fish catching machine.

Do we want to know what that...not Partridge.. is?

Caught a very nice bass on this one! 3 casts later, the braided loop on the sink tip failed and the leader came off. Still had the sink tip but lost the leader and fly.

So... Sboi... tell us .... why is this one a Favorite?  Very well tied... nice hackle👍👍🎣🎣😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking around the forum for a couple months now, so I figured it was time to post something. I love seeing all the really talented tiers and designers work on here along with all the other great information. I've tied off and on for a few years, but have really hit it hard the last 3-4 months and am improving with both my tying and design skills.(my tying still leaves a lot to be desired!)

These are some of my favorites I've tied this month.

    An orange humpy...

Well a couple of them.  This whiting saddle is amazing!  I’m on my 3rd fly and have enough left to get maybe 3 more?  And I’m not like skimping on wraps of hackle.  5-6 each fly.  Honestly I never did saddle before.  Always capes.  And while much of my stuff was whiting, I am very impressed with the saddles.  A nice coachman brown, figured would go well with this orange humpy...

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies, especially Bazzer69. Sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing some issues with the vice.

Since seriously considering buying this vice, I’ve since realised it’s probably not suited to my Saltwater tying.

With that in mind, will continue to look.

Its either going to be a Dynaking Excalibur, a Stonfo Transformer, or a Renzetti Master.

    Thanks again Guy’s.

Check j-vice out.... Mine will be the last vise I hold on to, if I was Forced to Pick One..  But about 10 must leave before I am only down to Jay Smit’s tool art.

Not sure where you do business but over the years one of the best place that I have found for hair has been Blue Ribbon Fly Shop in West Yellowstone share with them what you are tying and they will hand select the best hair material for your needs.

+1 on Blue Ribbon.  They were 100% on two recent orders in last month....👍👍🎣🎣😎😎
