  1. Cool! Thanks for the advise. So, just to be clear, if I casted just a plain egg, like the one in the video, it would float? So i need to attach some form of weight (beadhead nymph, split shot, etc.) above it to get it down, where I want it?

  2. I just bought like 200 yards of mylar tubing from a local fly shop's clearance section for $3, but I have no idea how to use it. I want to use it for the bodies or some marabou streamers, but whenever I cut it the ends get all "frayed" and I don't know how to handle it. Whats the best technique to tie it in?

  3. I'm planning on tying some eggs like this one for a salmon and brown trout trip.

Do eggs like these float? I mean, obviously you want your eggs to sink, but I have had troubl in the past with eggs I bought from fly shops. Are these meant to be fished with a split shot, or are they supposed to sink and the ones I bought just poorly made?

Also, eggs look relatively simple as far as steps, but if you have any tips I would appreciate them. Like best colors and sizes.

    Thanks

  4. Just wondering what you guys do with your realistic flies. I will save one on occasion, if I really like it, but I'd say i fish with 90% of my realistic ties. To me they're just flies, only they can catch the pickiest trout. That's the main reason I tie realistic flies- to fool trout that are extremly picky. They just can never resist that ultra realistic hopper, or realistic size 26 midge. What do you guys think?

  5. On a squirrel. Run a cut down the middle of the belly. From base of neck to anus. Cut the legs off. Head too. Not worth the trouble for that little extra fur. Now just peel the hide off the carcass. Grab hide in one hand, carcass in the other, and pull the hide off. Start a cut down the tail, and you should be able to pull the bone out. Then cut off the tail bone, cut open the abdomen, and clear all the guts out. Deep fry and enjoy.

On a rabbit. Cut off head and legs. Make belly cut, then just peel the hide off. Just grab hide with one hand, carcass with the other and pull apart. Be careful though not to rip the skin. As others have mentioned it is vey thin. Gut it and stuff the cavity with veggies, garlic, onions, and some BBQ sauce. Season the outside and bake it. Enjoy.

Hope that helps. If anyone knows a better way please chime in here. smile.png

This is very helpful!! Thanks a lot!

What do I do with the hide once I remove it? Wash it off, and cover it in salt/borax?

  6. Does anyone hunt for fly tying materials? I have an excessive population of squirrels and rabbits in the woods near my house (they breed like, well... rabbits!), and I see dozens every time I go hiking. I have been looking to tie some zonkers, and believe I have a BB gun in the basement...

Just wondering, has anyone ever done this?
