Oops. I tossed the butts because they were cut off and looked like a pain. I will work with them more on the next batch I get.

Thanks. I tried to scrape one but tore several holes, so I was a lot more gentle on the others. Used a lot of borax. Will see how they turn out.

I have done a search and looked at youtube videos, but I cannot find the specific duck feather that are used on a lot of flies. I know the bronze flank feathers, and plan on using those, but I have several Mallard hides and wings. Is there an advantage to using Borax over just plucking? Is there a diagram of what feathers are used and what they are called? I did not grow up on a poultry farm, and my knowledge of what each feather is called is limited. Any help would be great as it was below freezing yesterday and going to be 60 today....so I kinda need to do something with them when they start to thaw.....
Thanks!

Is there a pattern available for this fly?

I thought this might be the best place for this post. I am getting low on thread and was wondering what strong thread for streamers I could use from hobby lobby. I live too far from a shop and wanted to get some Monday instead of ordering. I am very hard on my thread so it needs to be strong.

Yes, I have been saving tails. Just thought there could more I could use. Thank you for all the help!

Hmm. I guess I will fish it and see what happens.

Chia, Nice, that will catch some fish for certain! Can't tell from the pic if you did this, but a few of them with rattles in the body will make a very good alternative!
I will have to try that!

I hunt snow geese in Saskatchewan every spring. After the hunt when everyone is having a beer, I match primary wing feathers and put them in ziplocks. They tie quite nice and readily can be dyed.
We have very liberal Snow goose limit in Missouri.

I just trapped two possums last week. I don't think I could handle cleanup one of those nasty things. They are about the only animal that I just don't want to deal with.

Cool. I just did not see a reason to let them go to waste this year.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was some type of leech.

I have a lot of friends that duck and goose hunt. Several have agreed to get me feathers. What should I be looking for and from what birds. Most hunt mallard, wood duck and teal. Geese are mainly Canadian and some snow.

Wow. Those look really cool. You have a tutorial for those?

Found this fly in an old box. Cannot remember what it is. I did not think I would use it for bass.

Thanks. I was thinking of putting a double onot a small streamer hook. Green and white, will post a photo later.

What do you fish more? I am interested in effective streamers for SMB and rainbow trout.

I have tied for a while. But I have never messed with deer hair much. Is there a "starter" warm water pattern?
Hobby Lobby 90% off Christmas leftovers.Lots of tying materials.
