20-30 ft. Far for the stream I use a 2 wt on.
-
It still has the 4wt line on it.
-
I purchased a 2wt off a friend a while back. I was telling him how far it cast and he said it might be like that since he had 4wt line on it. I had never thought of this. Are there any pros or cons to stepping up a line wt?

Again, I won't comment on the music because I watch without sound. The video is acceptable.
At .57 ... you write "tie in a short peice of zonker". It's piece ... not peice !!!
PAY ATTENTION IN SCHOOL !!! PROOF READ !!!
You're doing nice, short videos. Don't make yourself look like a dummy by misspelling words on them.
Mike, I taught English for 12 years. I understand your concern, but your tone is rather harsh. Would you speak to him like that person?
That type of mistake, while unfortunate, is common. Hell, I am even guilty of getting in a hurry and making errors.
While I do appreciate your passion for education, I fear that the tone does more harm.
Thank you for understanding,
Shawn

Good to know. Thanks

Are there any good tutorials floating around for foam flies?
-
I was hoping to trim them right after I got them. I have no experience tanning hides.
-
So, I just trim all the hair but the tail?
-
Can anyone point to me information about what part of the squirrel to shaveat for dubbing. I really do not want to tan the thing, but just shave it with a beard trimmer.
Thanks!

I am getting a dry fly leader and using my nymphing leader. Both are furreled and 6 wt.

So, I never trout fish anymore. I fish warm water rivers and creeks for bass and what not. It is too far to drive for trout fishing for one day and I hate tippet. I use 4lb test and streamers 99% of the time. That being said, I am going trout fishing in Sept. What is a good folio pet that will not curl up on me?
Thanks

I like to tie a bigger right off the bat. That gets my mind in line with my fingers. After that I look at what my materials are and what I like to tie. Depending on my mood it might be super simple like a craft fur minnow or something bigger like a pig jig. I do it to relax.

Chia, you might be right ... they might be bad in your area.Cotton mouth are bad in Missouri.
Probably not nearly as bad as you think. I consider myself an amateur herpetologist. I've gone searching, looking for the poisonous snakes people claim they've seen. Most of the time, if I do find THE snake, it turns out to be a non-venomous species.
Your State's Department of Conservation backs up my opinion on this.
Most of Missouri I would agree with. However, the castor river area is not as cold as most of our water. My family also owns a large tract of land with a very swampy area. This place is crawling with them.

Jellyfish suck ass. Not a great day. 🤑
-
Tried surf fishing, but the June grass is bad. Hit the pier today to see the tarpon. Taking the kayak and fly rod out tomorrow. A lot different than I expected.
-
In Navarre! Have flies and two rods. Going out to fish the surf!

I sure hope I can fing fish next week when I'm out on the salt. 😜

Chia ... I don't tie "game changers", so this is only based on pictures and tutorials I've seen.
They all seem to be trimmed much "tighter". Yours seems a bit "fluffy"
But like you said, it'll catch fish.
Rather nervousness about cutting them down......
-
I always thought it would be interesting and was tired of paying out the nose. I took a class at the local vocational school and it came with the basic materials. I got frustrated with the size and difficulty of trout flies quickly. I recently picked it up again and tie streamers and other bass patterns.
I appreciate those that can tie small flies, but I have trouble even threading those damn small hooks. 8 is as small I go.
-
For pan fish I use a leader from cut throat leaders. They are great and double loops last forever. I use 4lb mono for tippet. I got frustrated with trout fishing and all the X whatever. Never looked back after switching to larger, cheaper, easier to tie materials.

Thanks. I have some smaller streamers in my bass box I will bring a long. A friend from NC is mailing me crab and shrimp patterns. I would love to hook into some kings. A friend is going with so we have the buddy system on the kayaks and will fish some in the sound too. Thanks for the advise. I will tie some chart / white craft fur tonight. I have never fished the double bunnies yet so idk how they will look compared to the craft fur.
Thanks again!

I don't normally need a long cast for our Ozark rivers. This. Is good information to have. Thank you.
